F06 3rd brake light removal/install

Desperately seeking help on removal and install of the 3rd brake light. Mine went flying off the car today and need to find a replacement as well as get an understanding of how it is installed.

Thank you in advance.

Have you tried the TIS website yet? If not...click the following link, enter the last 7 digits of your VIN...then type an appropriate keyword or phrase in the SEARCH box (something like "remove auxiliary brake light": https://www.newtis.info/

Appreciate the tip! The nomenclature was not what I had expected. Most folks call it 3rd brake light or center brake light or something along those lines.

I have no idea how or why the retaining nuts found there way liberated from the light assembly but they were nowhere to be found. The cheapest I have seen it is about 540 dollars, sigh...

You wrote that the light assembly flew off the car...do we assume that it was damaged and not reusable? If the light is still usable...you can get replacement nuts...they are #2 in the diagram and part nbr index:
