'wrinkled' leather

I've never had real leather seats before (didn't want them this time, but already mentioned the packag requirement issue). Now that I'm back from work (still only have 25 miles on the car) I notice that the driver's seat cushion has two large 'wrinkles' in the center as if it was a very old couch and the cushion had worn over time in the shape of someone's fanny. I may have some weight issues, but I'm hardly big enough to do that in less than 10 miles of driving.

Is this normal or should it be taut like the passenger seat is (and the driver seat was yesterday). The car did sit in the sun all day at about 82 degrees, but I don't think that should matter?

Sounds kind of stupid as I write this, but......I just shelled out a big chunk of change to have a wrinkly seat!

This is fairly common and depends on temperature to a large extent. Leather breathes and moves so, over time, you will find that it will adjust and the wrinkles should fade away. However part of the charm of leather is its slightly uneven look which never quite goes away.

I would not worry. If they do not go or fade after a few months, then I would get BMW to sort it out. After all you have a nice 4 year warranty to take of these things!!

I agree, but I've also read of other complaints about the x1 leather not being taut on the seats. I looked at my 5 series seats closely today and the seats look fine after 3 years. I'm curious to see the seats in the new x1 when it comes.
Take a couple of pics so we can see what you are referring to

He's most likely referring to the lumps or tracks that stick up in the middle of the seating area. It's most likely due to the warm temp and heat buildup inside the car which softened the leather, then being sat on which stretched it and caused the "excess" surface or lumps. I wouldn't worry about it for now, although if the seat condition gets worse in the next several months u should bring it to dealer's attn and request replacement. Let's hope BMW didn't cut corners too much on this car.....

I personally sat in and molested the leather in the x1 that I sat in the showroom and it didn't feel any different than the leather in my x5. Same thickness and texture IMO

My seats look perfect, but it's not 82 in Chicago. Have almost 900 miles on her.

Mine too

Our X1 also had loosely fit leather seat. I made a comment on it on my review:
https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=652282

I think this happens on 3 series as well. During the Munich factory tour, I saw the workers covering the leather onto the seat of a 3. The leather was never stretched to free it from wrinkles, especially the back seat. At the time, I made a comment to my wife that the wrinkling is not random so let's just live with it in our X1.
