1 week with my Alpina Flash

Thought I would post a brief note on my Alpina Transmission flash for my 35i. After driving it for about a week, all i can say is...

you gotta get this...

it makes the car behave like a newer performance vehicle... The sport and manual mode shifts are quick and smooth...revs a bit higher at the gear changes.

What is surprising is in the regular drive mode... smooth shifts and at 38-40 mph you are already in 6th gear. I've noticed a small uptick in MPG likely because it is getting into the OD gear a bit faster.

I can cruise at 40 mph in D6 and drop to S4 and the car will just take off, no hesitation at all.

The tip in problem that many may face is all but non existent with this flash.

If you have the 35i with the 6 speed...GET THIS FLASH!

So glad to hear this. I am planning on getting it done next week.

Is your JB4 ISO? Does it matter?

Thanks.

Had I known about this at the time, I might have gotten a 35i over the 28i. I traded in a E90 335i and was unhappy with the transmission.

Just got my X1 Friday, finally was able to setup laptop properly and flashed it last night!! Awesome flash so much better suited for the X1 35. It has enough torque that it doesn't need to rev out to 3k rpm to move the truck.. This definitely can save us gas the way it shifts now! It also really livens up when in M or S modes!

Do you know if this update only for the 6 speed transmission on the 35i or is it available for the 8 speed on the 28i?

The software flash is available on line. Need to search for it.

It can be flashed to your car my many reputable guys who do coding. I paid $120 for all my coding and the Alpina Flash, although I already had the necessary cable. If you do it remote, most guys will ship you the cable and get a deposit...

All together, the flash is less than 30 minutes and it painless.

Got the flash on Sunday, and its great. I used the same guy as Cwickberg (thanks!), and he coded it as well. Loving the flash as well as the coding tweaks.

How do those that have changed the 35i transmission to the Alpina program handle issues with BMW warranty? Is this a big red flag??? Also, I did not know that the 35i X1 side mirrors had servos to fold away, program change or not... What is the story on the motorized mirrors? Thank you.

I'm holding my breath on the warranty issue. Everything I've seen and been told is that the flash does not impact your warranty, but everything is anecdotal (or essentially from a lack of anecdotes related to voided warranties). BMW certainly has not issued a press release saying "knock yourself out; we've got no problem with it", but I have not yet seen a claim from someone that BMW voided their warranty because of this flash. I hope, though, I haven't missed anything.

Yes, my 2014 35i has the motorized side mirrors. Not sure what part of my configuration added that (mine is pretty much loaded with ultimate and cold weather), but I was able to manually fold/unfold with a button prior to the coding work I had done.

yeah they fold when you press the button. But if you coded it they can do that automatically when you lock the car. Maybe im wrong but who ever codes and flashes your car should be able to undo what they do if the dealer really says something which in my case has never happened. So i tried it and liked it. Im thinking of installing a JB4 on my ride to try to get a little more power. Anyone done that to a X1 yet?? Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks
