Badging question

I just bought a 2013 X1 sDrive28i this past weekend. I noticed that the door badge towards the bottom of the driver's door displays sDrive28i, but the passenger door badge displays xSdrive28i . Maybe the passenger side emblem was lost or stolen, and that the previous owner found and applied an xdrive emblem to replace it. Or could it have simply been a mistake from the BMW Leipzig manufacturing plant? Or... would there be any other reason?

Not a huge issue, but just one I found curious.

+1 for pics. Sounds like someone put that on after the fact. Either in error (x, s, most people have no idea what this even means), or on purpose ? I highly doubt it's a factory mistake, but that's of course possible.

haha wow!
That is definitely a strange one for sure.
I would guess it was like that from factory.
I just can't see anyone replacing a badge with an incorrect one.

Are you going to pull it off, or leave it?
I would probably remove it if it was mine.

I can see where it could have easily been a missed QC item when it rolled down the final assembly line. I think I'll just leave it. Good conversation starter at Bimmer meets.

There is a typo in your original statement, you said the passenger side says "xSdrive 28i", the picture shows "XDrive 28i".
My understanding is that is the AWD version and S is the RWD version. Regardless, I would suspect it has been wrecked and misbadged.

A remote possibility if nothing else, but the car is a clean title and I ran an NMVTIS report to check against insurance claims and any unpaid lienholders before I went to test drive it. The vehicle history checked out 100% in the green. I think it's more likely a factory mistake or a rebadge by the previous owner.

This is the first time I've seen a badging error that could have been from factory. Super interesting.

Maybe it's S drive on one side and X drive on the other? 3 wheel drive!

I met up with the original owner today to get some background on his former X1 and what it needs to have addressed immediately and what can wait for later. He also explained the mismatched door badges. He had the passenger door repainted after he scraped it against a concrete post. The body shop broke the original badge while removing it, so they substituted the xDrive28i badge. It's something the previous owner failed to notice until a few weeks later.

As you found out not all accidents are reported. Those services should be used with a grain of salt.
Easy fix though.
