X1 E84 (2011 - 2015)
First generation BMW X1 availbe as a X1 28i with either sDrive (RWD) or xDrive (AWD) or the US exclusive I6 N55 powered X1 35i xDrive.

Timing chain x1

Hello , i am interested to buy an used xdrive bmw x1 from 2012 to 2014 but i have a concern about that timing chain problem and i am wondering if there are more problems that i dont know about it . Can u guys help me in choosing the right model or which model should i buy ?

The N20 engine did have some very minor issues with a timing chain, however if you can find an X1 28i owner that did their own maintenance, you may find they changed the oil more frequently which should have improved the life of the engine and timing chain.
YMMV.
A 35i model with the N55 engine has little record of timing chain issues, but may have more issues with the water pump.

I am not familiar with a 35i and 28i , i will buy from Germany only and from what i've seen its called e84 , i am guessing this hasnt the chain problem ?

In North America, we had the 28i which is the Inline 4 , and the 35i which was the inline 6.
No other options for Diesel or even smaller engines, that are offered like that in other parts of the world.

I am still concern about it , alot of people are complaining on my country , i've seen here a list with the engine's but i've seen people complaining with e84 engine too :/ how can i know for sure ?

E84 & n20

E84 refers to the car chases model; this covers the 328i and the X1. The N20 refers to the engine: 2 Liter 4 Cylinder
