Active Blind Spot problems

Hi All:

Love my (used) but new to me M4 Convertible. Just an amazing car, both as a DD around SF (a surprise how mellow i can set up the car), and driving it heard on the winding roads around here. I am taking track classes laster this summer.

One problem though: My Active Blind spot detection system regularly stops working. I can often turn it on and off and it will start working. Nevertheless, it is not working most of the time,.

Does anyone have this problem and any try at home fixes . before i bring it to the dealership?

Thanks!
andrew

Yes. I have the exact same issue (non convertible). Is this the message you're seeing?

If it is, don't bother going to the dealer. They said it's a known issue and it has to do with the shape of the car and the way the bumper accepts/reflects light and shade and it's completely normal.

I'd have never taken this feature if I had a choice, I picked up a model off the showroom floor and it just had it...but now that I have it, I want it to at least work properly, you know?

The BSD system is inconsistent on the M4. Often, it only detects traffic closing in on you from behind, not as you're passing, especially on the right. The left side is more consistent.

I took it to the German dealer and they said it was normal.

I've also noticed that too. Eventually they'll replace/upgrade the units that sit behind the bumpers. Can't imagine this is acceptable from a delivery standpoint with it being this flaky.

Just a heads up, I finally got the ABD to shut off on my way to the BMW dealership today and even had a road test with one of the techs. We turned off the car and turned it back on so I could re-enable the ABD and literally a minute later after pulling out of the parking lot, it failed again. He said nope, this is not right and he was uninterested in finding any fault codes that the other dealer I went to said was required. So, they're going to strip it apart and change out whatever they need.

Just a FYI to OP, find a SA who will get a line tech or foreman (in my case) to get in the car when it's failed and let them take a look.
