E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Mass Air Flow Meter and Turbo?

Hey yall,

I am brand new to the forums and also to E30s. I recently bought a 1987 325i that had an aftermarket turbo kit installed on it. With this I noticed the original Air flow meter is plugged to the front of the turbo with an air filter on it. Should I leave it there or reinstall it where it is at the throttle body? Or the best thing i could how is remove it all together somehow. I am just wanting the best set up and would enjoy any feedback. Thank yall so much!

Unless you are running REALLY low boost, do not blow through a trap-door AFM !
Unless of course you want to do a lot of fabbing.

Sucking through the original AFM is not that good an idea.
Sure you can relocate the Air temp sensor downstram, but the unit will still not see cold/hot air mass differences.
Of course you could add a Map sensor on the intake (see earlier pages/pics in my thread for ideas) and somethig like the Unichip to control all that.

If I would do it, I would use a later MAS that can take boost.

Turbo conversions can be neat if you have $$$ or nasty
Don't take life too seriously; no one gets out alive !
