Picking up new to me G30 tomorrow

I drove a G30 when they first came out and really really liked it. I've been stalking the CPO listings for the last few months and just pulled the trigger on a 2018 540i x-drive.

Flying out to pick it up tomorrow morning and driving it back home. It will be BMW number 14.

Very excited and looking forward to hanging on this board.

Cheers!

PS - Nice 2012 X5 diesel will be going for sale shortly.

Picking up new to me G30 tomorrow

Yeah, that was bad of me...

2018 540ix
13k miles
Mediterranean Blue
Black Dakota with blue stitching
Piano black individual trim
Alcantara headliner
M sport package
M Sport brakes
Driving assistance & Driving Assistance Plus packages
Executive package
Leather dash
Heated steering wheel
Ceramic controls
HK sound
Wireless charging
Black kidney grilles
All weather floor & Trunk mats

Must have items were HUD, CA, soft close, and leather dash which I have on my X5. I also wanted to have the blind spot detection which I've never had and feels like a must. I wish it had nappa leather and Apple car play but the price seems really really good given the miles and equipment level so I went for it.

The pictures and video make it look like the car is absolutely spotless. We shall see tomorrow.

My last BMW sedan was an 2006 330i with 6 speed and I really loved everything about that car. Hoping for a repeat of that experience.

You ought to be able to figure out how to get CarPlay - it's free for everyone now. Make sure you get signed up for ConnectedDrive and you should see your CarPlay subscription magically extend to 2039.

I like the feel of nappa leather, but hate the look. The nappa upholstery looks like grandmaís old sofa.

Congratulations. Sounds like a very nice example. My guess is you will enjoy it (ok, it didn't take very long to arrive at that determination). Merry Christmas!

You'll love the ceramic controls (and everything else).

Congrats! I had Imperial Blue (a bit darker) over Black and it was a gorgeous car.

This is exactly why I passed on Nappa for mine, the sports seats look so much better than the diamond-pattern IMO.

Congrats on the new ride OP, I'm sure you will love it!

I am with you. Other than the Dakota instead of the Nappa, this is a great car. I fully understand why you are getting this despite the leather upholstery.

Enjoy it.

You will LOVE it. Mine is the best, most trouble-free BMW I've ever had. Much better than my X5 35D, a great ride plagued by EGR and DEF tank issues.

Does it have the Multi-Contour seats or the Sport Seats? Seems weird if the original owner would have specced the Ceramic Controls (in my mind, a "must have" option) and the leather dash without the upgraded seats. Some here have found the sports seats too narrow; with your long drive home, hopefully you won't have an issue.

You know the rules: Pics or it never happened!

Picking up new to me G30 tomorrow

Picked it up today after early flight into Salt Lake City, here is the story.

First the seats. They are the standard sport seats. Similar to what I have in the E46 and had in the E90 and whatís in my partners 428 convertible (F3?). I prefer the multi contour seats but I find them fine even on long drives.

So the pickup went fairly well except there is one dent that needs PDR. Sales guy said he missed it and there was no way to get PDR guy on short notice. Otherwise itís perfect. Original carpet mats are still in plastic bag.

Drive from Salt Lake City to Reno went fine. 500 miles 6 hours 85MPH average and 26.5MPG. Only glitch is ACC went crazy as I was leaving Utah and stopped working altogether. I was going through iDrive menus to tweak the settings for the safety nannies while everything was engaged when the glitch occurred so maybe I found a software bug. Stopped at rest area, restarted the car and it didnít act up again.

About the safety stuff, I am pleased with BMWs implementation, it was all very intuitive. My only other long drive comparison of similar systems is with a friendís Subaru Outback and that car just drove me crazy with the beeping. Very intrusive bitch in a box style. I think Iíll use the features on the BMW. Only nag is that the steering wheel kept asking for hand movement every few seconds but then I figured that increasing the ACC distance and reducing speed seemed to make it less needy. Hope thatís the formula.

Car performed flawlessly. I am exhausted from lack of sleep (couldnít sleep due to excitement) but I think I will like this car.

About the X5 diesel, mine has 107k miles and Iíve had zero issues. None. Itís been a delight. I think my brother will be buying it from me so it might stay in the fam. The X5 has multi contour seats and the suspension is more forgiving so itís more comfortable than the 540, but the 540 is a lot more capable and fun. Not a fair comparison. I am happy to be back in a less pedestrian and more fun car, but I will miss the X5.

Love those seats! I prefer the sport seats (find them much more supporive, especially laterally in the seat bottom) and the contrasting blue stitching is very attractive. Unfortunately it is not an available option in the USA. I found only one, it was in Richmond, BC Canada, I drove up to see it, and found it was a pretty low optioned car, as BMW forces you on the M550i to get the multi contour seats with just about any option package in Canada. It did have the B&W stereo though and the air fragrance system in the glove box...the Mediterranean Blue was my other choice...I ended up with white by still debate that, as the blue is eye catching to me.

Enjoy the car, it is very well equipped!!

Thank you.

With more spent looking at the interior, itís actually a cool combo. It had to be a special order car by someone who was focused on black and blue (black seats, blue stitching, piano black trim, nappa leather dash and door top trim, ceramic knobs, ambient light set to blue then obviously the blue paint and black grille). Whoever ordered it deliberately skipped the nappa seats to get the blue stitching. Not how I would have configured the interior but it works well.

Took more pictures of interior.

I wish the blue stitching and piping was available on the M550i. I really wanted that highlight. My Porsche 911 has deviated stitching on the seats, dash, and the rest of the leather trim. It really makes the interior pop!

Me too, tried the configurator, no go. Was surprised you could in Canada, but then prevented you from ordering the most popular option packages. Plus USA citizens cannot order and import a new car from Canada...dealerships are prohibited. Found a used one, but as I mentioned, the options were sparse due to the restrictions emplaced by the BMW Canada configurator.

The sport seats are definitely more body hugging...the other seat options perhaps are a better fit for fatter Americans? I may fit that description, but still prefer the sport seats....too many years in my 540 M-Sport seats and various high bolstered seats in Ferraris. The carbon fiber seats in my present Ferrari are very high bolstered, but keeps you from sliding around laterally.

What option packages can't you get in Canada? I ended up ordering a 2020 M550i after looking for months online for a used one. There was nothing to be had in the PNW that fit my criteria, mainly I didn't want a black color.

Fredo, welcome to the G30 forum from the E70 forum!

I'm still throwing money at my diesel to keep it running clean, because I just love that engine. I usually ride as passenger in my wife's 2020 530e, and I will say this, the E70 has more leg room.

Actually, Canada has more standard features, and one or two additional options over the USA. What I am saying is you cannot order the Sport Seats in black with blue stitching on an M550i and also order the most popular options, like Premium and such, as it automatically forces you out of those seats. Sport Seats in black with blue stitching is available in Canadian M550is, but they will not have some major option packages, as they are not available in combination with the said sport seats.

Canadian M550is all come standard with executive package, anthracite alcantara headliner, rear individual lighting, rear heated seats, rear full HVAC controls (not just a temp control like USA cars) and cold weather package (heated steering wheel and heated front and rear seats). One option not available in the USA they have available is the Ambient Air Package like on the 7 series (kinda a gimmick). So unique options not normally seen in the USA, is black sport seats with blue stitching in M550is, rear full HVAC controls, ambient air package, and more standard features in M550i than in USA spec cars.

Interestingly, in Canada the piano black trim option is only $400 cdn or ($306 usd) versus $1080 in the USA. Strange.

Thank you!

Could have, and maybe should have held on to the X5 longer, but I had a new car itch to scratch.

Will figure out what happens to the X5 after I get back from France in a couple of weeks. My brother is interested but heís in a bit of a rough financial spot at the moment.

Nice car! Mind if I ask how much you got it for?

The dealer was asking 48 and I got it for 46. I see youíre in the SF Bay Area. Based on what I saw when doing a search with Healdsburg zip code and 500 mile radius, low 50ís is typical asking price for similar miles and equipment in CA. It also seemed there was very little if any room for negotiation. Based on that I feel I got a decent deal but I know that in 6 or 7 years - the length of time I expect to keep it - it wonít even be worth 5 figures.
This car was in Utah and came up when I was doing a 500 mile search from my Reno location.
