driving with the turn signal on

2010 E61 535iX
I bought this car 2 1/2 years ago and the seller told me she hated the turn signals. Engineered to shut off by pushing the stalk in either direction, but the signal is almost inaudible and the steering wheel blocks the arrow lights. I catch myself in unwitting bliss driving with the signal on after a subtle lane change.

Can I adjust the sensitivity or just make the gong sound louder? shock electrodes?

Thank you for any knowledge, experience or opinion you are willing to share.

best regards, Mike

Use the 'lane-change' position (first detent either way) instead of the 'turn-signal' position (second detent). Turn signal will only flash 3 times (or whatever you have it set at), instead of waiting for significant steering wheel input...

Thanks

Thanks for the quick input. I will try to adjust my heavy pawed touch and check it out.

best regards

I had the same issue when I first got my E60. It takes some getting used to but now it's second nature to me how to shut it off. You might want to tilt your steering wheel down a bit so that your indicator lights are more visible.

I have had a problem in all BMW's I've owned (E30, E46, E61) where the steering wheel always blocks the turn signals for me as well. I've encountered the other issues you mentioned but it did take me a bit of time to get used to the E60's turn signal stalk. For me, the steering wheel does not go high enough for me to see the top of the instrument cluster. Perhaps I don't fit the standard mold BMW had in mind. I wouldn't mind having my steering wheel lower but then I wouldn't see the top half the speedo either.

It would be nice if the flasher indicators were in the center of the instrument panel like on the old E30. That way the steering wheel would clear them. Having them at the outside edges obscures them behind the wheel. And yes, the sound is pretty quiet.

Thanks for actually using your turn signals. I've heard too many comments about being "just another arsehole in a Beemer not using turn signals"....

Around here it's more likely a Toyota. And it's likely said Toyota is driving with her high beams on.
