Issue with right rear door lock on 2005 BMW 5 Series

Hi, so I've had a 2005 525i for a while now but recently the door lock stopped working. My son pulled on the handle as I unlocked it and now it makes the going up sound twice but then doesn't unlock. The door won't open and is essentially completely locked now. When it goes up, it goes halfway but doesn't stay solidly in place. Does anyone had this issue before and have any solutions?

The child lock latch didn't inadvertently get flipped, did it?

I don't think so since when the rest of the doors are unlocked, I can't open the door from the outside (or inside). I can double check but I don't believe this is the problem.

Two pulls of the inside handle should unlock then open the door. Tried that?

Yeah, that's how it's supposed to work. Problem appears to be with the locking mechanism; it won't work and unlock regardless of how it's done. I've tried opening both door handles at the same time, unlocking the car and pulling at the same time. Nothing seems to work.

Ideas:

Go into iDrive.

There is a function to turn off and turn on the door locks.

If you play with this for a while. It might free the lock issue or reset it.

Next:

Does the door handle feel like the bowden cable behind it is loose? Broken? Malfunctioning?

Is it possible to disconnect the negative side of the battery for a while with the hopes of resetting the door actuator?

Have you tried the key, from outside?

Yeah. I've tried all that. The door lock presses up twice and makes the mechanical clicking sound twice but never actually opens, just staying locked.

Probably the latch/lock was damaged when the lock was cycling and the handle pulled. I've often feared that issue when enthusiastic passengers start yanking handles as I unlock the car. If it can't be re-synchronized, getting it apart is going to be a chore.

That's what I think... I'll try doing some other stuff to re-sync it but I might have to just bring it to my local BMW shop... we'll see how it goes.
