"Faux" European Delivery in a 2014 xDrive28i

Back in 2008, a friend bought a new BMW 335xi and invited me to join him in Munich to pick up the car and drive around Bavaria. Actually, we drove Munich->Amsterdam->Berlin->Prague->Munich, and it was amazing!
Well, a friend bought a CPO 2014 BMW X1 xDrive28i last month and I had an idea. We drove ~250 miles up and over Stevens Pass, Blewitt Pass, and Snoqualmie Pass to visit Leavenworth, WA. Leavenworth is this cool, little town, set in the eastern Cascades where everything has been zoned to look like Bavaria. So, we did "faux" European Delivery!

Some observations about the X1 from someone who owns a 2014 X1 xDrive35i Sport Line with every option.

1) The 4-cylinder turbo is enough. Sure, it lacks that insane urgency of 300hp and 300lb-ft of torque in the turbo inline six, but in no reasonable situation would I ever call it slow or lacking.

2) I love the Sport Line / M-Sport seats in my X1 and missed them in my friend's "no line". The plain seats lack sufficient support and adjustments for my tastes.

3) I missed the H/K stereo. The base stereo is "fine", but there's really no comparison. I also missed the front and rear parking sensors. Yes, in all fairness, his used X1 lightly optioned was a lot cheaper than mine.

4) The 17" rims were actually pretty good in my opinion. The car felt much more composed and less "twitchy" than the 18" rims in my X1. I seriously need to do my homework when it comes time to replace the tires on my X1. My buddy's X1 "no line" felt much more composed here.

A really fun day trip out of Seattle with lots of elevation change and winding, mountain roads.

Yeah, as a 28i owner, I'm happy with the acceleration. The transmission is nice too. Very responsive. OK, I'm sure you could find faster cars, but you can always say that....

In case you've never done the real European Delivery out of Munich, it's not too different! . I had the opportunity to join a friend back in 2008 picking up his BMW 335xi coupe. What a trip!

Nice! I was there a couple of years ago in the fall and camped somewhere in the forest between Leavenworth and Coles Corner. The fall colors were great at the time and it's a nice drive, with lots of winding roads.
Nice photos!
