How has it worked out? Did you do it yourself? How long did it take? Any advice?

Different phone mount project

Well, since I got the 'broadcast-thing' to play music from my phone thru the car's radio I've wanted to change the phone mount that clips to the air vent. I've been missing the plastic screw cover from the right side of the transmission tunnel so figured 'why not'...
I got a steel bracket from home depot & went to work on it. I cut & bent till I got what would work like I wanted. I then got some 'heat-shrink' rubber tubing to encase the steel. I trimmed down a rubber table-leg boot to better fill the depth of the screw hole. Added some soft foam rubber padding pieces to help further stabilize it against the tunnel surface. Well, it's very handy and not in my way plus I'm not now worried the phone mount might break the car's air vent piece.

My windshield trim was all cracked and the cowling was cracked and crumbling. I finally got the parts in hand and replaced them. The hardest part was removing the wiper arms and dealing with the screw in type plastic rivets. If you do the cowl replacement, don't order the refresh kit from ECS. Just order the cowl and then some of the push in type of rivets.

Got it back after madness and expansion tank failure....

Long story but, the water pump began making a loud ticking noise and I had no idea "what" was actually going on and in my present condition..... I am not trusting myself to wrench (post motorcycle accident mental issues)....

I got the car back after having to have the water pump replaced (same one i replaced years ago) and a ne gasket putvaroubd the oil filter housing. Both were a total of about 1500.

As soon as I got it back I noticed the coolant light coming on. I figured it was a temporary thing because they had messed with the coolant level... it kept coming on briefly and then going off after the initial start ups in the morning. It bothered me and I figured that they may have tapped the expansion tank while doing the fixes...

It kept up so I trusted my gut and had the expansion tank inspected and eventually replaced. Suck but, I'd rather spend a few bucks to fix the expansion tank versus a few thousand on s new car or engine work...

Done...

Madness attached... about 3 weeks between the original and the expansion tank madness

I did a track event last weekend at Sebring and pretty much wore out a set of brake pads. Also boiled the fluid as it hadn't been yet changed from previous owner. Planning a mild upgrade this weekend to Hawk pads, stainless brake lines and fresh fluid.

yes did it myself
bit tricky working upside down though. the two bolts may be torq or Allen keyed. What ever you do mark the flanges with a felt tip pen and move 10mm a time. l also added a long grease nipple and added SILICON grease. Use only this and not a normal grease as it reacts with the plastic internals.

And just to stay on topic, I paid the shop I use to change out the water pump and thermostat housing last weekend for the sum of $650. I just didn't want to have to deal with jacking the motor up to free the pump.

i just upped the radio in my old Z4. pioneer AVH-3300NEX with parking brake bypass, Axxess ASWC-1, and a metra goods (99-9303/ 70-9003 / 40-EU10)

will be swapping vents to all black ones and ditching the gray ones. already ordered the black center vent with sliver highlights. the two side vent/cup holder housings, along with adding flush mount usb ports to the Metra 99-9303 hardware.

Changed out the failed wiper fluid pump.

Used: URO Parts 1J5955651 Washer Pump

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0066TLNT6..._RWk0Db2SV6F9T

I can't substantiate this but, it seems that rain-x bug remover caused the pumps on my z4 and on my jeep to fail as it is the only common element in both failures that were contemporaneous

The jeep pump was replace recently too.

Swapping of vents.

This has been an ongoing thing since the AVH-3300 Install. Converting all the grey front vents over to black ones to better match and camouflage the AVH-3300 and the metra faceplate.

Found all the vents on ebay. I had to match the vent tabs on the side vent/holder to the z4m center vent's adjustment tabs with chrome inserts.

The last hurtle I need to vault is the passenger side cup holder "lid" (the outside cover with the little cup on it.) It needs to be swapped out for a black one. The drives side vent/cup holder came complete but, the passenger side was not complete and was broken long ago. I oreded URO replacement long ago and included that fix in the upgrade.
