Trickle Charger for 2016 428i xDrive

Hi all. I am looking to purchase a trickle charger for a 2016 428i xDrive. Do you know of any that work via the cigarette lighter within the car instead of being plugged into an outlet? I know on certain versions of the vehicle the lighter cannot be used. Ideally looking for that type so I can fully wrap the car with a cover over it without any openings for the winter. If not, are they any specific versions that use an outlet that you suggest? Thanks very much for the help.

The "cigarette lighter" power point disconnects from power after the vehicle turns off and times out. You must use the power points under the hood. You can make a permanent power lead off the charging posts that drops out near the grill.

Iím unclear how running a wire to the cigarette charger outlet doesnít require an opening while running a wire to the engine bay does?

Just run the wire under the bottom edge of the cover, through the grill, and youíre done. Versus getting a wire into the cabin would require leaving a window open a crack for bugs and moisture to get in. But either way you have to run a wire.

And yeah, as others have pointed out - using the cigarette lighter outlet isnít recommended and it shuts off anyway.

Another alternative is to skip the float charging and just juice the car up once midway through the winter. Or not worry about it at all and leave it alone until Spring.
