7 Series - E65 / E66 (2002 - 2008)
Discussion of BMW's 4th generation E65/E66 7 Series flagship. The E65 generated much controversy, due to its radical styling and iDrive user difficulties. Nonetheless, the E65 broke records to become the best-selling 7-series iteration ever, especially after its 2005 facelift.

Actual colour of my E66

Hi guys, we have recently bought a 735Li from auction and are restoring it, it has no history what so ever. I want to know what might be the factory colour of this car, it is sapphire metallic black at this point but its VIN says ALPINWEISS 3 (300) which when I googled comes as white, now the problem is that the car is black throughout including engine bay (very neat engine bay in terms of fitings) and especially looks like it is factory fitted to the point that there is no white colour evidence, I have showed the car to a professional paint shop and they say that the car is possibly repainted on every panel but they declared no evidence of it being white ever, they were also so shocked that the VIN says white, also the sticker on car says ALPINWEISS 300/0. Is there any chance that is colour also comes in black?

PS there is a 2 inch chip in side skirts which reveals white but it may not be enough. If any one here can guide me, thanks.

The sticker youíre talking about is the one on the strut housing in the engine bay?

Maybe you can pull up the carpets a bit and see if the frame is black too. Weiss is German for white as you probably already know so thatís definitely weird!

Pulling up on the rear seats might be easier. Then pull the carpets to see even father but you should be able to see enough evidence from there if it was painted.

Does the car have a salvage title? May very well have been repainted. You can try to peel back a small corner of the paint code sticker on the shock tower. It should be white under there.
