E36 318is clicking under acceleration

I've owned this car for about 6 months now, and have changed out just about every bushing/mount other than the rear subframe and diff mounts. Today, after letting the car sit for about a week, I decided to drive it. While cruising around, I noticed a clicking sound coming from underneath the rear of the car ONLY during acceleration. As soon as I let off the gas, or push in the clutch, it immediately stops. I have never experienced this, and it drives me nuts. If anybody has experienced this, or knows what's going on, help me out!!

Welcome to Bimmerfest!

A couple things to look at:

Check the C/V joint at the differential. If it make ANY noise when the driveshaft is turned back and forth, the joint is failing.

Check the heat shield around the exhaust and driveshaft.

I appreciate that. I got under the car and shook the axles, driveshaft, tires, nothing seemed abnormal....first bmw, and bought it in rough running condition for super cheap. I like projects, and this seemed like a solid one. But never had anything like this happen, and dont know what to be looking for

Intermittent noises are the worst to find. You have to figure out what is moving under acceleration and try to find what's hitting where. I wish I could be of more help. Good luck.
