M52 oil filter types

Hi all,
Just thought I would pop this info somewhere on the internet...

Some early M52s (up to Sep 1995) use the same oil filter as the M50:

Then it switched to the version used by the M54 and most M52s:

The main difference in filters is that the M50 style has a plastic centre piece (the black bit here: https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-6...uine-bmw-part/ ). I think (not 100% sure) that the oil filter housing lid is metal for all the M50 style filters and plastic for all the M52/M54 filters.

If only the dealer had known this when I bought a filter a couple of days ago

Most smaller dealers are useless.
Ive gotten customers right from the dealer because they couldnt figure out ews problems, lock sequences for security, or how to diagnose fuel pump electrical issues.
The oil filter matches the housing. Different housing means a different filter.
