Got a question for you all.
I Had the motor recall done and all seems well. Got the whole package less the timing chain which tested OK. Warranty is up this October. Before that I would like a thorough going over for last time 'under warranty' repairs. Should I have an indy BMW shop look it over and then see what the dealer has to say. Can I rely on dealer to look hard for defects? Thanks in advance. ![]()

N63 pre & post-CCP service database
I've had my trouble free '11 550i for nearly a year and a half. (I'm feeling lucky here!) CCP was performed and the oil consumption has improved noticeably. I'm planning, or hoping to, keep the car for another two years and sell at 100k miles.
My question for the forum is what extended warranty plan would the group recommend for the N63? |

I just bought my 550 last week but got a service history that showed the CCP so I added my data. No indication of any prior warranty issues except brakes and tires. Oil changes were on warranty so maybe the dealer saw a low oil level, or they just had an opening and got him in. Car runs fantastic but the engine seems a tad noisy at idle.

I had the CCP done 6 months ago on my 2011 550i while it was under warranty. Recently i had a drivetrain error message so i took it back. They replaced faulty fuel injectors, turbo cooling line and aux water pump....all under warranty but after getting the car back it doesnt drive as it before and revs into gear shifts causing longer shift time and acceleration lag. I took it back but the tech said "drives as it should" as the shift lag was not so obvious to him. Seems to me its a coding thing...but i want to ask if anyone has any ideas about this before i take it to another bmw shop. TIA

2011 550i-recall all good until monday
All was fine AFTER the recall-oil consumption was MUCH better. On Monday wife gets DRIVELINE MALFUNCTION! Has used more oil in last 2 months. Service advisor is GREAT guy as we have known him socially also(2 wheels). Says he will do the valve seals now, etc. Sill CPO with only 59K on it.
Will advise when its complete!

FYI valve seat/guide seals did NOTHING for my oil consumption. I don't think I have read anywhere that repair on these engines addresses the underlying problem. I am actually surprised that any dealers are still doing them so late in the game....
dealers were doing them back before the CCP thinking that could be the cause of the oil consumption.

N63 pre & post-CCP service database
My '11 550i xdrive w/ 78000 miles had a drivetrain malfunction on cold start ups with very long crank, key recycle would typically fix. Dealer investigated coils but found injections leaking. Replaced injections, which I thought was part of the CCP but whatever, BMW USA picked up $2k of the bill since I'm 18 months out of mfg warranty. Runs noticeably better. Haven't had it back long enough to know if repair will effect oil consumption.

Back home
Wife picked her car up again after ALL fuel injectors were replaced. They drove it Saturday and Monday and no warning lights.
We will see!

Has anyone had extended success with repairs on this car? I bought one two weeks ago and have used 2 quarts of oil. In extended stop and go traffic (rush hour) this thing starts smoking like a house on fire. I guess I'm out of pocket for this repair if I can't get BMW or the dealership to play ball. Am I better off to sell it and take my loss now? I'm really disappointed - my first BMW and I really loved the car.

Subscribed.
Had Drivetrain Malfunction error flash on the dash when I am got on boost a couple of weeks ago. Turned the car on and off and it went away. Proceeded to accelerate again on my way to work and got the error again, this time with a CEL. Removed the engine cover and saw the left 2 turbo coolant hoses blew off the nipples. I got better hose clamps until I get OEM hoses and clamps. The hoses have expanded and need to be replaced. I thought this was the issue. Test drove it and the stuttering was still there. When I gassed it, got the Drivetrain Malfunction again and the engine was stuttering. This time, it blew the right coolant hose. Fixed the hose, went for a drive, and the Drivetrain Malfunction is still there when I get on the boost. Pulled the code and got P303 (Cylinder #3 misfire). Had the alternator and battery checked and all checked out OK. I am also getting the Battery Discharge error intermittently.

Hello.
Just got a call back from my SA. CCP was done on 5/17/15 and she told me that the warranty does not transfer ownership? Is this true?

Not sure. You could try calling BMWNA to verify.

I read a thread on the Audi forums (year or two ago) someone replaced their piston rings on their 2.0t Audi having the same, according to the dealership, "normal oil consumption", and it resolved their problem...they did this on their own after replacing the CCV unit and valve stem seals. It seems once you own one of these problem cars there are two alternatives, be willing to "rebuild" the engine (by that I mean replace all seals/gaskets) or dump the car and hope the next one doesn't "consume" oil. On our N63s, if you don't have the desire/love for the vehicle the former will just irk you to no end as you watch whoever you task to fix your vehicle drain your bank account.

Just got my '11 550i. Runs like a dream now *knock wood* but I scheduled the CCP SIB0001314 anyway, because well - why not. Better safe than sorry with this N63. Didn't know about any of this until After I got the car of course. Traded in my E92 for it, hope this wasn't a huge mistake.
