7 Series - G11 / G12 (2016 - current)
The next generation G11/G12 BMW 7 Series flagship forum. Unveiled June 10th, with production starting in August the 6th generation 7 Series comes in a light weight package with extensive use of BMW i carbon fiber technology. The interior quality raises the bar with a touch screen and gesture controlled infotainment system. Exterior styling has been a sticking point with mixed reviews so far.

What to expect with F01 / G11

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a 2015 or 2016 750i and would like to know in general how reliable or unreliable these cars are. Basically looking for what I will get myself into with these two models.

My current e65 (2004 745i) got me pretty exhausted with the amount of work that I have done on it is still ongoing. There are stuff which I even gave up on that needed fixing e.g. iDrive.

If someone can tell me of their experience that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Mein Auto: 2013 750i and 2015 740i
Having had a 2002 745i myself as well, I would say that the F01 platform has fewer minor issues but also a few major issues especially with the N63 engine on earlier model years. Getting a 2015 750i will be the best bet if you must have a V8, but I would say consider the 2015 740i if you want a more reliable drivetrain. It won't feel slow compared to the 745i unless you've driven the 750i.

There was a "service action" for earlier build G12 750i's due to potential increased wear. Hard to say whether this will potentially be an issue later on, but there have been a couple cases of engine replacements that were needed. There have also some minor electrical glitches/annoyances reported, and as with any new model, I would recommend avoiding the first model year if possible. The B58 engine used in the G12 740i has had a good track record so far though.
