Sweet. The boat with mine on it just docked yesterday! Should be at the dealer by the end of the month. I'm headed out of town on vacation and will pick it up when I return! Can't wait. Ordered it almost 2 months ago and the M3 brochure it tattered and torn like the first playboy I had

Did your other car have SMG? How do you like the SMG trans? I ordered it and am kind of having second thoughts.

nope - 2001's didn't have the SMG option, that started in 02. to be honest (I've written about this before) I am not a fan of the 6mt in the m3. it's a bit rubbery, and it often seemed to fight getting into gear, esp. 2nd. the SMG is incredibly smooth - however it really is an adjustment. I am obviously still learning. but this tranny definitely seems like it was designed with this engine in mind - they work perfectly together and there is nothing like the quick shifts while darting through 101 traffic with both hands on the wheel

Thanks. My car is probably coming off the boat today or tomorrow (might already be off!) and I ordered with SMG. The dealer has one on the lot spec'd almost identical to mine with a 6mt (the only exception is carbon black vs jet black). I keep reading about the SMG and it seems like the purists don't like it.

However, I also surmise that the people who like SMG are the ones that drive with it on a daily basis, and the ones who don't like it are the ones who have only driven it a couple times. ***point of clarification, there are obviously exceptions to this statement, and it's just MHO***
Anyway, congrats on the new car, I love the color and had I not been a fan of black I would have done the same color as your car!

Thanks! My BMWs have been black, oriental blue (often mistaken for black) and the new one is carbon black.

My truck is the same color gray as your car. Great color!

Enjoy!

actually I bought the vert in 2002 with 3k miles on it -- kept it a year, put 20k miles on it, and turned it around on ebay for $1,000 less than i paid. was carless for 4 mo until my new mini cooper S arrived (shipped from New York to avoid Cali markup); kept that a year and sold it for the purchase price. Had a chevy SSR hardtop vert for the last 16 months, but made the mistake of going and driving an e90 325i and was reminded how much i missed something that handled well - so I came across this coupe and decided it was time for a switch

Yikes, no need to SHOUT.

I had a convertible previously. Both cars are amazing - the performance difference and handling is noticeable on the coupe. I love convertibles and the m3 cab is an awesome one -- i recommend you drive both if you haven't already and go with what you like!

regards,
Wes

I sit and stare at it while I play drums in the garage, lol.

No challenges (my friend in her explorer doesn't count)... yet...
