2015 - 650i GC xdrive vs. Alpina B6 Off the Line...

Hello. I am looking at getting a 2015/2016 650i Gran Coupe X-Drive.

I finally got to test drive the 650i while on vacation and loved it! The dealership also had a 2015 Alpina B6 and I test drove that right after the 650i. Time and circumstances didn't permit a thorough test drive (wife and 5 year old son patiently waiting on me to continue on with vacation).

I like to go fast off the start and in comparing the two, the Alpina seemed to hesitate a bit longer before really delivering the power. Is this normal? If so, is there anything tha the can be done to minimize the hesitation?

I was really surprised. Any help or thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Unfortunately the closest 650i to where I live is 330 miles so getting another test drive in might prove difficult or costly.

Thanks!

Going to stop by the dealership and re-test drive both cars and see if I can get a better feel for them.

Besides sport mode - any other way to increase off the line speed? Thanks

@Vorpel - This isn't a 650xi vs B6 comparison, but here is a head to head with the M6GC and the B6. They talk about the turbo lag on the B6. I think you'll love either one, (I would) but hopefully the video gives you some food for thought.

Good luck and please let us know what you decide.

Cheers!

Thanks for the replies. I did go back to the dealer and re-test drove each car. I thought the Alpina was a smoother ride overall and once the turbo kicked in the acceleration was unreal! I liked the steering wheel a little more in the Alpina - just a bit more comfortable. The things that I didn't like were the buttons vs. paddle shifters and the turbo lag. I could negate some of it by down shifting.

I didn't end up buying either. The Alpina was very nice but was more than I was looking to spend (66k).

I did a ton of searching and narrowed down my list last week and flew out to L.A. And looked at several. I picked up a beautiful 2015 Space Gray with Vermilion red interior (wow!). It is MSport edition(Executive and Lighting packages), Driver's Assist Plus, Cold Weather packages as well as Bang & Olufsen audio and black out except the 351 19" rims. It has 36k miles and is certified.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to drive it home yesterday - the higher tax rate and fees in CA made shipping it the better call. So now I'm just waiting to complete the paperwork and take delivery.

I know I'm going to love the 650i and with spending less on it vs. the Alpina my wife and I are looking to upgrade her to a nice 2015/16 X5 5.0i!

Now the hunt begins for that.

Thanks again and you'll be seeing me around now that I've joined the club!

Vorpel,

You and your wife will LOVE the X5 50i! I just picked up a 2015 X5 50i last month and cannot pry my wife out of it so I can drive it myself. She loves the ride height, interior room and most of all the power.
