We need better consumer protection laws. What good is a recall to deter future design flaws if all they are paying is the repair and loaner? What about time lost to drop the car off, transfer belongings and drive back to pick it up and wait like a lemming for them to call your name? That's a hassle that we should be paid for, or they should send out a person to do door to door pick up and repair instead... Imagine that cost!
This is ridiculous like saying we should shop around for health care. Both cases are safety issues and not properly addressed by laws.

Update. Finally got a BMW Service Dept to accept taking in my 2014 328d for the inspection. Stated so far a handful that have been scoped required a new EGR Cooler however still no parts available to replace. Service Tech stared scope will be done tomorrow and we shall see. Finally though appears they are checking into this matter in North America. Has anyone else had theirs scoped if so what was found?

About four months ago the dealer completed the recall and found 'no issues'.

Recently the check engine light came on and the dealer says it's due to a EGR issue. The dealer also stated they want to do a 'smoke' check in order to properly troubleshoot the Engine light. The dealer wants to charge me over $600 to do the 'smoke' check and if the problem is related to the recall that will 'consider' offering me a credit for the $600.

Anyone have experience with a EGR related check engine light? Thanks!

Not personal experience, but received knowledge here of broken EGR valve springs. Lots.
