iPhone audio question / 2014 X1

Greetings. I have a 2014 X1 xDrive35i with everything. Here's the situation:

1) Music plays fine from the USB stick near the shift lever.
2) Music plays fine from the car's internal hard drive where I've loaded it in through the glove box.
3) I have the cradle adapter in the center armrest and here's where the problem is. I can navigate the songs, see the album artwork, and even see the time progress as the song plays, but I just can't get any sound!!

Any ideas? The phone is clearly connected, because it's charging and track navigation and album art are working great. So strange...

Thanks!

There is an option in the iDrive settings for BT to check/uncheck media audio other than just call audio.
After checking that and it still doesn't work, try to restart your phone while its connected by BT.

Edit:
Oh you are connecting using the cradle. I dont use mine since I have to buy an adapter so I just use BT connection.
Have you tried testing if it work on BT?

Honestly, I haven't figured out the BlueTooth approach, because the audio quality should be better with the USB stick or cradle. Hmm...

Another iPhone software update got pushed today; perhaps that'll help.

Got it! OK, maybe this was obvious to everyone, but it wasn't obvious to me. Looks like you MUST have the BMW Connected app installed on your phone for this to work properly. Who knew? I installed the app, and now everything works perfectly with the phone in the cradle inside the arm rest. It's a really nice solution, because the phone is charging, tucked out of sight, and fully integrated. I'm really pleased! For the last four months of owning the car, I'd been thinking BMW built a really crappy solution. But it works for me now!

The only reason I found it is that I tried plugging in a different device and got a prompt about installing the BMW Connected app. Maybe I got that prompt the first time on my phone and ignored it and then never got the prompt again.

Hey, how do apps work using the snap in adaptor? Do you have to start them from the phone too, like you do when using a USB cable, or does launching pandora from iDrive start the phone on the app too?

I don't know, actually. I have 36GB of music on my phone, so I haven't bothered with any of the streaming services. I have enough to drive Seattle to NYC and back again a few times without ever hearing the same song twice.
But the app made a key difference in that now I actually get audio!

And now we're back to no audio through the phone. No idea what the issue is and whether it's on Apple's side, BMW's side, or just a mis-set option somewhere. It's maddening, because I can see the album art, see the timer progress through the song, but just don't get audio.
I'll just use the USB option instead, but it just seems kind of lame for such a nice car.

I think I have a bad cradle in the arm rest. If I pop it out and pop it back in again, it works fine -- for a little while. Guess I'll buy another one and see. Grr...

BMW Seattle replaced the cradle free of charge and now it works perfectly. The guy at the service counter remembered me from January, and the whole thing was painless.

But then it didn't work after a little while. I have a new, new cradle (photo below). This one is different, and they had to order it. The metal piece at the front is new; the old ones were all plastic. Anyway, so far it appears to work... I had to argue with BMW Seattle a bit. They tried passing it off as a "compatibility issue", but I said that was simply not OK and I expected it to be fixed. I bought it CPO and it's under warranty, so there's no excuse. They came around and did the right thing.

THANK YOU!

Which iPhone model are you using? I've got a 6s Plus and am curious if there is enough room to close the console with this larger body phone.

I have a 6s and I do not think the "Plus" will fit. It's tight in there! Maybe you should have gotten an X3 just to fit your phone?
