E30 (1982 - 1993)
God's Chariot. The E30 was produced primarily from 1982 through 1991. The cabriolet was the one exception which was produced through 1993.

Greetings!! Well here is the update. The fuel pump turned out to be bad. Installed a new one and car starts and runs, and idles surprisingly well, and lot drives. However, the starter solenoid will not stop spinning while the motor is running. Does not spin and key on and stops spinning when motor is off. I tried a tap tap with a metal pipe to no avail, still just spins. The starter itself I bought from Rock Auto here here Product description states "uses R Terminal" not sure that that means?
Is there an external relay that may be stuck? None of the connections appear to be touching on on the solenoid and the small wires only seems to go on one way. Big black positive cable from bat post is on post farthest from the starter and the larger red coated cable is on the inner post next to the starter. Thoughts?

Hi All, it has been a while so I thought I would post an update. Here is a recap.

Got my '89 325i I bought a while back out of storage. The car sat for 6-7, maybe 8 years due to the starter falling out. It was removed by the previous owner. I recently trailered the car back to my place and put a new starter in. After struggling with the wiring of the starter, since I did not take the old one out, I finally got the starter in correctly and the motor turned over. I had sucked most old gas out of tank however a fuel pump was still needed. Once I heard the car run I went after the timing belt. Turns out the timing belt was a Gates/replacement and was in amazing condition, no cracks. The tensioner had also been replaced. I replaced them again.

Happy to have discovered the tool kit and the full size spare with a matching rim. the spare and rim appear to be in excellent condition.

I have put about 200 miles on the car and have been going after little things like cracked headlight lenses, exhaust hangers, and bulbs. I currently do not have power to the radio even though the fuse is good. I might have a relay giving me trouble.

Thanks to those who assisted in responding to this thread and helping me get the car on the road.
