M Coupe Oil Temp Gauge not always working

So my oil temp gauge works usually on cold start but once it gets to around 200, it falls all the way to the right. I can tap on it to get it to work but usually will fall all the way back to the right.

Is this common and is it wiring or bad gauge?

Also not sure if its a broken gauge issue but when I do get it working, I am reading close to 260 when driving fast (90-100+) on highway, is that too high?

Any input would be awesome!

I frequently have the same issue with it going off the high end of the scale. Tapping on it returns it to normal reading.
