No DCT's for the next M3/4 (?)

similar to the M5/8.

"They" say that conventional automatics have caught up in terms of shifting speed, and are more durable.

"They" also say that manual transmissions are a live and well though, along with RWD.

The most important thing is cutting cost DCT is cost more to produce and ZF auto is cheaper compare to DCT.

I think it would be closer to the truth to say that manuals are still alive, though not too longer for this world...

I read somewhere that the manuals in the M3/4's will only be available with the base spec' engine.

BMW's said that they can't find a suitable manual transmission that can handle the torque of modern M engines. BMW said the American muscle car manual transmissions don't have the shift smoothness, lever effort, etc. worthy of a BMW.

BMW builds a spec' race car, mostly for use in Europe, the "M235i Racing." When it came time to select a transmission for this purpose-built race car, they ended up with a conventional eight-speed automatic.

I've done my part. I've bought seven new passenger cars for my own use (excluding trucks, SUV's, or Frauwagens), all manuals. I got my manual 2014 535i just under the wire. My car was built on 2/24/14, and they stopped making manual 535i's on 2/28/14.

I don't buy that Porsche was able to offer 911 with MT and why BMW couldn't match the same offer like Porsche? The Turbo S offering 7 MT on their line up despite BMW don't want to go that route due to cost saving.

Thanks but pay closer attention to the article. its just for the S model not the Turbo, not the Turbo S. That was all I am saying...yes you can get a MT in a Porsche 911 but not in the base model, only the S and not in the models above it.

when they come out I am sure you will get a MT in the Targa S, Targa GTS, T and the GTS...probably in the GT3 unless they do what they did on the 991.1 model.

**all 911s are now turbo charged (except the GT3) which confuses the issue I know...marketing...
