My last order from ECS has had a few delay too. John on other hand got his package, that was some of the parts he put on this weekend.
As for other shipments, I have 2 purchases on Amazon missing right now (neither are shipped by amazon).

Figured out why my CD changer doesn't work... turns out the little 3-terminal connector was unplugged and electrical taped. I pulled it apart and accidentally shorted the power wire to the ground wire. Went ahead and re-taped all of the wires individually to prevent that from happening again!
Gotta clip one of those next time I'm at the junkyard.

I also have new (well used) A and B pillars that I bought from Clemster on the M5 board that were supposed to be in today, but were delayed a day and should be in tomorrow from UPS. I'm more likely to trust them though unlike the post office lol.

As for my audio stuff. Having a hell of a time trying to get good sound out of the new sub setup. Problem is if I leave everything at normal settings such as default including the dsp settings, it sounds good. But only at low volume. At higher volume, it sounds worse than stock! If I turn up any of the settings wether it be the pioneer amp or dsp, it becomes too much and the amp gets hot after 20mins. At first I thought it was because I mounted it in the left cubby. Left the little door open hoping that'd help it stay cool but nope. I then removed the amp from the cubby and carefully mounted it on the trunk floor as a temp with some rubber bushings so it's not directly on the carpet to see if that would help keep it cool. Well it does, but again thats only if all of the settings are at default or less. Any bass boost or even trebel whatsoever, and the sound is overpowering and the amp gets hot.

Going to get in touch with crutchfield and see if they can help since I bought the amp and hardware from them. I have until the end of this month to return the stuff so if all else fails, I'll do that and just pay the piper for new m-subs. Yea can find them online used, but I never buy used speakers or subs because you don't know if they really are still good until you get them installed. Which if they don't, your screwed and stuck with them. Unlike new, where you can send it back and get a replacement.

Hmm...

I gave my old blown m-subs to my friend about 3 weeks ago who's cousin knows about rebuilding audio stuff like radio's, amps, spakers and subs. Well he came by today with the subs rebuilt. Honestly didn't think it was worth it. Anyways just to see, I disconnected the new amp and pulled the new subs. Bolted the m-subs back up which I do love because it's so easy lol. Tidied everything up, reconnected the battery and turned on the radio.

Well after setting the sound back to where it was originally when I had the m-subs in and testing things out in each mode. I'm not sure going aftermarket subs was really worth the upgrade. I know it sounds crazy. Now to be fair this is with the Pioneer amp stuff set at basically half settings. If I cranked the gains or bass boost knob from 3/4 to full, then it blows the m-subs out of the water. But at that point it's absolute overkill, sounds awful, and not really good for the equipment...or anyones eardrums. With the settings at half or lower than its really not much different than OEM. Yes the m-subs have more of a muddy sound to them where as the Pioneer ones are more punchy with more depth.

Other problem is I still have issues with the new amp getting hot if I even turn up the settings. Talked with crutchfield several times and even they were stumped. Tried different ground spots, rewiring things. Possible it could be a faulty amp, but don't know. Going to give it another week or so and see if I can sort it. If not, then screw it. I'll just send it all back, keep the old m-subs and maybe down the road do the same thing again but only just add a seperate smaller sub amp to them instead of buying new subs.

How much did that run you? Can they rebuild subs so they sound better?

I have no audio experience and stock speakers are ok but could be better. Actually prefer my Honda's system way more, when it's working. I don't want to buy something and not be happy especially when I'm broke.

Anyways I bought an m50 intake hehehe. A little setback but should be worth it in the end. Already have a ported exhaust side, so now I have to port the intake. Then I can reassemble the head and close this puppy up. Have the rest of the stuff shipped. o2, intercooler, piping, wastegate, etc.

Still have to move the abs and possibly some new a/c lines.

Don't know if any of you are deep in the ms43 tuning side but a fellow made a real nice ds2 logger than can log engine parameters from the dme plus has an extra 5 analog inputs for possible use with other sensors. It also reads and resets codes. Sure as hell should beat similar devices/setups that would cost over $500 to do the same. Should get it in a week or so

I don't know exactly what he did to fix them. I gave them to my friend who sold me the 2 new pioneer subs for $200 that normally go for $250 each. I bought the amp, loc, and wiring hardware from Crutchfield for about $450. So I'd say about $650 in all which is about the same price for just new m-subs. I did try them with the aftermarket amp and they hit harder than the pioneer subs. Don't know if they could handle the power all the time. Even one of the m-subs hooked up at full power is insane.

Like I said to bmwdubya1198, get some bavsound speakers. Good easy plug-n-play sound upgrade. Don't know if your car has DSP, but even adding a small mono amp can make a dramatic increase. Guess those little suckers can pack quite a punch when properly powered. If not then you could go m-sub route or a powered sub in a box.

Definitely want to see a long in-depth video of the car when you get it finished. I think I heard of the guy you are referencing.

Same! I'm really interested to see how you do it, I've been looking into turbo M52TU/M54 setups and people really don't do it much for E39s. Plenty on E36, E30, even an E21.

Discovered the exhaust heat shields where the mufflers are at are missing. Probably removed by the previous PO when the muffler delete was done. Not sure if that could be the cause of the warm trunk? I mean the car doesn't have mufflers so I don't think I would still need them right? Or am I wrong?

Can't just go out and get some from a junkyard since the M5 has different shields. And new ones cost over $300 each!

Exhaust is hot from the manifold all the way to the tailpipe, the whole thing gives off heat whether it is muffled or just straight pipe.

That could definitely be the cause of the hot trunk. My Miata was awful about that, it was like a sauna in my trunk. It leaked, plus the muffler (position right under the trunk) put out MASSIVE amounts of heat.

Welp, better get in touch with Clemster on the M5board again and see if he has any. If not then maybe I can get an exhaust shop jerry rig something up because there is no way in hell I'm spending over $600 for a new pair.

That's it I'm done with the head. Ported the intake to match the m50 manifold and ported the exhaust to be bigger lol. Polished the exhaust as best I could with brushes and a Dremel. Now I can reassemble the head. Probably run another lap job? I would have to check the seats as this head has been in my trunk for like a month lol

Yes. I went a tad overboard on the the intake lol. Still within the gasket. Kept it a tad undersized so that theres a step. It should help keep air in the head when flow reverses when the intake valve closes.

Well... just ordered an ELV (steering lock) emulator for the E90 today. Hopefully that fixes this issue once and for all!
The dope who last worked on it decided to install the updated steering column without the lock, yet he just cut the connector off...
Clipped a replacement pig tail from the JY today.

I love Tesa tape. Makes things so clean and OEM looking. Bought the 3-pack from Amazon about 2 years ago and am now down to my final roll. Going to have to get some more soon. Need to get the other non-soft Tesa tape that they use in the engine bay too, so I can rewrap some worn things in there as well.

I did get my new lower oil pan gasket and level sensor from FCP on Thursday. But again the weather has been and supposed to be crap rain until at least Wednesday before I can get to replacing it thank you mother nature. Thats how it always is. Either I'm short or waiting on parts to come in. Or I do have everything but can't get to it because of the weather. Really annoying lol.

And speaking of parts, I got another email from ECS about the belly pan bolt parts being delayed again yesterday. Called one of the local dealers to see if they could get them quicker and wouldn't you know it, they actually had the parts in stock! So I picked them up, then contacted ECS to cancel the order. Luckily ECS never charged me while waiting for the parts, so no worries about waiting for a refund.

Geez, ECS needs to pick up the pace!

I’ve never tried the Tesa tape before, but from what I’ve heard it’s far better than electrical tape... which is a nasty mess after about a week! It seems to hold up really well on the interior harnesses, so I prefer using that to keep it looking nice and clean.
I need to get the engine harness stuff too, it would come in handy for my V70R. I redid everything last year in corrugated wire wrap. It’s looking much nicer, but the electrical tape comes away too easily. Worst part is that I used Scotch Super 88! That’s supposed to be the good stuff!
