ED a second time.

so I am still planning my first ED, my question to those of you that have done 2 or more is this:

have you found each ED to be special in its own way or after the first one, its just not the same? is it still worth the adventure? ore are you just using it to have a car to tour around with while there?

I have read about people doing ED and then dropping off the car immediately...or flying over taking delivery and flying right back...seems like a lot of trouble for very little return.

the reason for all the questions is that we plan to do 2 EDs in 2017. a 340 for the wife and an M4 for me. we aren't going to do them at the same time, one in Sept and one in April/May. We don't want to take delivery of the M in winter as it will just sit in the garage anyhow and burn warranty.

Thanks for your thoughts.

ED is the only way that I buy/lease BMWs from quite some time. This year will be my 4th time. No local dealer can replicate at all the delivery and driving experience, regardless of pricing IMO.

I'm doing my 4th ED in August and I believe there is no other way to get a car (other than my Jeep where I was forced to just drive down to the dealer - soooo mundane...) Each one has been different and special in their own way. Stayed around Munich the first time. Took my dad and ventured a little farther away the second time. Third time we drove all the way up to Amsterdam for drop off with a few laps on the 'Ring on the way, and this time we are heading over to Budapest via Prague with a few other cities along the way before returning to Munich. I think each one is what you make of it, and it's hard to beat the cost savings on a lease. If you don't want 2 big trips in a year though, but still want the cost savings I suppose I could see doing the fly over pick up and drop off thing.

you gotta do both...its not just about picking up the cars, its about being on the best continent, a few hours away from cultural and natural beauty we either don't have, or have to fly to see

EDs are addictive. Combining BMW and Mercedes EDs I have done 8 to date.

One of my biggest disappointments in life was when my wife wanted an X-3. We picked it up in Spartanburg all right but it wasn't the same as Munich.

Luckily, it looks like a 2017 440 convertible (ED) is taking shape on the planning calendar.

I just finished my2nd Ed. My first was 335 and 2nd was M3. Different trips. Different sightseeing. The discount is a huge help.

Do it and go to different places.

I'm counting down towards #2 in 2018 (2nd year of the G30?) ... and there is a whole continent to explore ... two weeks is barely a pinprick on the surface of possibilities.

I've done two EDs and 4 different BMW plant tours. Each was unique in its own way and I'm not even much of a motorhead. Just driving the back roads of Europe is a huge thrill for my wife and I.

I tried to talk my parents into a 7 so I could go pick it up for them. Also tried to suggest it would be the perfect car for a European family vacation. They didn't go for it.

Did #3 last year. Looking forward to #4 in 2019. It never gets old - it's a big continent. But I space them out 4 years not 6 months. I'm not sure I'd enjoy 2 big trips that close. I don't think p/u and drop off just for whatever savings there might be (not much anymore it seems) is worth the hassle. ED is about the experience & ED pricing makes that doable.

ED a second time.

ED is the only way my wife and I will get our cars going forward. 1st ED 3 years ago. Stayed in Germany and Austria. I talked my dad into doing a 428 vert last year and my wife and I met them in Munich for a week and a half trip throughout Germany and the Italian/French riviera's. Awesome trips. Different but great. We are now going for our 2nd this July/August on a 340 for my wife and hopefully an M4 for me. Already have the production # for the 340 and waiting on the dealer to get me one for the M4 (fingers crossed). Totaled my 2011 335is 2 weeks ago and decided to pick up the M4 at the last min. We are going for 3 weeks this time. London - Munich - Nurburgring - mosel valley - Amsterdam - bruge - Brittany - Paris then a week in Ireland with family. I would pick up both at the same time if I were the OP. My wife and I like getting new cars together! Good luck

Thanks for the insight, I am trying to decide on 2 ED over the course of 8 months or 1. Kind of leaning towards 2 just for the fun of it. I know its going to cost me for two trips but saving my vacation for camping vs a trip to Germany...yeah Germany wins.

+1 for the dual deliveries..... fantastic experience all around. In our case, we like to take a _big_ trip to Europe every few years. Now that we've been bitten by the Euro Delivery bug, it's an easy excuse to make the trip over to the motherland for holiday... and you get to drive your new ride in its natural habitat

Cheers,

I have done 2 EDs. Each has been just as exciting and enjoyable. I did different itineraries for each. I am already looking forward to my next one. Since I lease, I will do it once every 3 years. I will not buy a car any other way. Believe me when you get back from your first one, you will already be planning your second.

Look, I go there (Europe) 2-3 times every year. Even without ED, the moment you get into the (rented) car and start driving is always, ALWAYS, very special occasion and totally enjoyable. Now add a brand new BMW ... You get the point. Do it.

Thanks, my wife and I are really looking forward to it. Likely we will do two separate deliveries since I need to save money like crazy right now. I know two trips to Europe will cost me money but two vacations to Europe is better than most vacation ideas I have.

BMW continues to enrich the experience at the Welt. I just completed my third ED May 03 and picked up a 2016 328xi sports wagon, and they still do a hell of a job. My first ED was in late summer 2007, second one in spring of 2009. The paper signing at the Welt in out time is quicker than it used to be. The lounge set-up more comfortable with quality drinks and food available while you wait for your presentation to commence. Presentation is seamless and very well organized. Your personal delivery specialist comes down to meet you. Up elevator to this big room with large monitors that show you what your car is all about. Back down, out the elevator, walk around to the stairs and down to see your car on the delivery floor. Specialist gets you into your new car, explains the features and help set your key up. Pair your smart phone. All the bells and whistles. The Welt is a very cool place and they did some new updates I guess in the last month or so. I recommend an early morning delivery since the Welt is much less crowded and then you have most of the day to go drive your brand new car wherever you want to go. Just do it!

How long does it take for the factory tour and the museum, we were planning to do both the day before delivery. but wanted to see things in and around Munich prior to delivery as well.

We have done the factory tour twice. One just my wife and I and the other with Dad. I believe its an hour and half maybe an hour and 45 min. They have you watch a video about the history of BMW then they lead you through the different production areas. Its awesome to see where your car was built etc etc. My stepmother didn't think it was going to be enjoyable and she was very impressed and came out loving the tour.

On our 1st ED we kinda ran through the museum which we shouldn't have done. You can be there as long as you want to be. We are going back for Dual EDs this summer and plan to spend more time at the museum. We moved the delivery time till the afternoon so we would be able to spend the morning and early afternoon chilling at the Welt and museum.
