E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Looking for a manual transmission 6 series

I am looking into purchasing a manual transmission 6 series. Just wondering what years offered this option. I have only seen one 2004 for sale and I was hoping for a newer model.

I have a 2007 manual. I believe they were available through the entire production run, but there were very few compared to the auto transmission versions. Back in 09 when I bought mine they were hard to find and I had to travel to Dallas TX from Oakland CA to complete the purchase as I wanted to inspect it myself prior to committing to it. No regrets...

I have a 2008 E64. It took some looking, but I eventually found one BMW certified pre-owned thru its all of its owners 90 miles away. I opened a Wells Fargo account so I could cut a cashiers check pretty much anywhere.

I caught one that had been on a dealer lot for three months. I started out hunting E39 M5's and C6 Corvettes. This is a pretty good place to land for many reasons.

I got my '08 E63 6-speed about 6 months ago. Best car ever!

I was looking for about 6 months prior to that trying to locate one...was about to import one cross-border, when a last-minute check on Autotrader pulled up a nice example 5 minutes from where I live!

I know it's hard, but be patient and one will come along.

It took me close to two years of casually and seriously looking for one with a manual tranny before I found the one I bought in Dallas just about a year ago.

Take a closer look. I clicked on a random link and it was auto, not manual

Other than the listing not available, they all came up:

Transmission: 6-Speed Manual

I found a lot of times dealers would advertise the SMG tranny as a 6 speed manual. It would be very disappointing to click on an ad and see this beautiful picture perfect car that was the colors I was looking for, had the features I wanted, and was priced right, only to see it is an SMG. That would make me SMH and RME.

That's nice to know. I didn't have that problem when I was looking and and I would've considered a SMG II car. I fooled around with the search parameters on different sites to see what would pop up. Who knows what you will fall in love with if you look around. Love and lust are two different things.

SMG's are garbage. I would never consider one.

Yup, I saw this a lot as well when I was looking - I think those dealers/sellers actually thought their SMG's were manual...guess some "car people" don't actually know what a true manual is...lol

I always brought up pictures in the ad and looked for giveaways, such as the shifter (obviously), or Paddle Shifters on the steering wheel, or a little "P" for "Park" on the instrument cluster (manuals don't show a "P").

I won't sully up the breed too much. I found the E39 M5 owners impossible to deal with and dealers wanted too much money for the condition. My mechanic briefed me on the E63/64 class and radar love was at ninety miles away at a Volvo dealer.

I bought in on the downward market pricing for used cars. The M6 owners around here are probably going to disappointed in their values too. It's fun to squirt thru traffic and I think I have a fix for the ****ty throttle response.
