After Market Navigation System

I just purchased a 2016 428I convertible. Didn't realize it didn't have navigation, assumed my iphone would work with it..It doesn't. Any thoughts on a good after market navigation and back up camera unit?

Do what I do; use google maps on your smart phone. No additional cost.

Buy an Avin Android unit or a Carplay module.

not trying to be too snarky, use the search tool for this forum. I used "aftermarket backup camera" got lots of hits. I know it has been discussed, pro and cons. There is a company bimmertech that sells a bunch of aftermarket stuff like cameras and even head units to add options. In my 2013 I used my phone and an inexpensive vent mount and Waze, I liked it. Depending on where you live bimmertech has certified installers as well if you don't want to do it yourself. It won't be inexpensive.

Good luck

That's why I said not trying to be too snarky. Welcome to the fest. I have gotten great advice and ton of information on this site. Most posters are really helpful. my 2013 was my first BMW learned a lot after the fact. Mine has 1 option, heated seats, its main redeeming factor for me was the 6 spd. I just got (2 weeks ago) a brand new X2 M35, I was much better and specifying the car pretty much the way I wanted. It is a blast so far, a lot different than driving a sedan but still a ton of fun

enjoy enjoy your new car, that is the whole point right

Take a look at BimmerTechís CarPlay MMI unit. It will let you professionally integrate an iPhone or Android phone with the carís screen, and it has a backup camera option. I recently pre-ordered their latest model; I can tell you more after it arrives in a few weeks.

Bimmertech understands these cars very well. They begin by having you input your VIN number, so theyíll know exactly what will and wonít work, and youíll get a neat solution without any visible wires or clip-on screens.

Get the Avin 10.25 with android 8.1 and the wireless reverse camera, and a whole host of other options if you want them. It's a lot better, and way better price than anything else I've seen out there. The one I spec'd out was $550 USD. It's on sale right now.

I'm in the same boat with my 320i, no nav, the fiance has to have navigation and I've had the car less than a week so far. I'm already racking up huge $$$ in the upgrades dept.....hopefully work has OT.

Another approach Iíve thought of is to mount an AppleWatch, which will display Navigation directions from your phone. But I havenít tested whether it can be configured to stay continuously awake when powered.

This. $0.00 for Waze and maybe $30 for a decent mount. Not only do you get a great Navigation app, but Waze integrates with Spotify. Then if you pair the phone with the car with BT and select the phone as your audio source, you will have music, calls and Waze playing through the factory audio system.

You can even double-press the steering wheel and access Google Assistant. Easy Peasey. And you can take the $$$ you save and do something useful, like joining BMWCCA, buying a wind deflector, and attending a driving event.
