E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Ethanol Free Gas

According to this list, I can get Shell 93 octane and a couple of unbranded 90.

The volatility should be better. My small engines like it better. What's not to like?

The small engines are built to run on the Ethanol free gas. Our engines were not tuned to run on Ethanol free fuel, so the engine should be tuned if you should decide to run that grade of fuel. The Ethanol free fuel should gain some HP, but I am not sure you will feel the difference.

Ethanol-free gas us usually "marine gasoline," and will not necessarily contain all the additives that automotive gasoline has. Shell sells ethanol-free, high-octane, Top Tier Gas in Canada. But, I've never seen it in the U.S.

That website shows that the Chevron near my house has 87 AKI ethanol-free gasoline. It doesn't. It has 90 AKI marine gasoline. It's not branded as Chevron (which is Top Tier Gas), and it's also very expensive. I use it in my lawnmower and other gasoline-powered implements of destruction, but not in my cars.

Cars sold in the U.S. are designed to run on E10 (10% ethanol) without any problems. But, you have to keep your gasoline fresh and you need to use a Top Tier Gas rated gasoline to keep the injectors clean, and in a port-injected engine keep the intake ports in and intake valves clean.

Ethanol only has about 2/3rds the energy of gasoline. So, E10 will lower your fuel economy about 3%. Modern cars don't need tuning for E10 or pure gasoline. They tune themselves continually, based on signals from the O2 sensors. But, not all cars can tune themselves to handle E85. Some manufacturers to sell E85 "Flex Fuel" vehicles. Those vehicles can handle E85, because the engine controls are different, and because the materials used in the fuel system can withstand the harmful effects of ethanol.

All the stations listed for Greensboro are regular gas stations. I normally use Shell gas w/ethanol and throw in a bottle of techron every once in awhile. My indy adds a fuel injection cleaner for major services.

****Update: here's a list of the top tier gasoline brands: https://www.consumerreports.org/car-...h-extra-price/
