Which fax machine?

I'm just about ready to get a new fax machine, but there are so damn many to choose from. I'm looking for an ink-jet type machine in the $100-$150 range and kinda narrowed it down to either the Sharp UX-B700 or the HP 1010. This will be for use at home and not a business.

The Sharp machine has a bigger paper hopper, a bigger document feed, can store more faxes in memory, has a wider range of copy enlargement and reduction settings, is a bit less expensive than the HP (even before the rebate) and a few other plusses. However, it only comes with a 90 day warranty.

The plusses for the HP are that it can do timed delivery (scan in document now, fax it from memory at midnight) and has a 1 year warranty.

I don't know which is considered the higher quality manufacturer.

Any thoughts? Other quality units in that price range?

Did you also factor in ink prices? Those tend to outweigh the cost of the fax machine pretty quickly if you do any significant amount of fax receiving or copying.

Historically, HP inks have been pretty expensive, although I know nothing of how Sharp compares.

if you just wanna receive fax, check out faxwave.com, I've been using that for over a year and am very pleased with the free service... might not stay free forever though...

Um... no. I actually do need an honest to goodness real life fax machine, not a fax modem and fax software.

And, that URL is refusing connections right now.

An HP cartridge lists for $67 on Amazon, whereas Sharp lists for $50. So he HP is almost 35% more expensive than the Sharp. Both are supposed to be good for about 500 pages. However, right at this moment, Amazon is selling the HP for $27 and the Sharp for $35. Not quite a wash.
