E63 / E64 6 Series (2004 - 2010)
The E63/E64 BMW 6 Series builds on BMW's sporty heritage with aggressive lines and an incredible motor to back the design up. Available in coupe and convertible trims with a standard 4.8 liter engine producing 360 horsepower and 360 lb-ft of torque, the 6-series is a popular choice that exceeds expectations.

Convertible top not working e64 2008

I'm having some issues with convertible top, opening trunk and rear window. None of them works properly. Top is completely not responsive, to open the trunk I have to manually turn the key and rear window goes up by 2in every time I press the button. Any advice on how to check what's wrong would be greatly appreciated. I was told it might be convertible module, if that's the case is it simple repair or it involves some coding or programming? Thanks

Look in the DIY section for help, there are plenty of topics on the top problems.

Thanks but the only problem I'm finding in DYI section is the faulty sensor which is definitely not the case. My top is totally not responding. The only thing I noticed is a clicking noise coming from inside the car when I try to open the trunk.

I had a wire chafing problem with the trunk wires to where I had to use the physical key. There were wire bundles on both sides of the trunk.

Send roseng a PM to see if he can point you in the right direction. I have a coupe, so I have not see any problems with the top. Gary should have an answer for you.

When you've had the problem with wires your convertible top still worked?

Sorry I wish I had some input for you. Iíve never had that problem. Do you know that there is a handcrank in the compartment above the interior light at the front top? That may help you get it to a position where I can reset.
Sorry I wish I had more input.
Good luck

Yes, I tried that but no luck.
I'm thinking about getting used convertible module on EBAY and trying to replace it.
Just don't know if it needs some programming or not.

I only had a problem in the right wire bundle. The fact that you would put a wire bundle in a moving part is abhorrent to me. The Germans have a different way of doing wiring.

Isn't there a diagnostic tree for this?
