F22 / F23 2 Series (2014 - Current)
The 2 Series coupe is the replacement for the E82/E88 1 series coupe. Production starts in November 2013 on the 228i (N20) and M235i (N55) coupes. Look for them in dealerships in February 2014. The convertible F23 2 series will follow in the fall of 2014.

Worlds most expensive O-Ring!

My dealer just quoted me $1,100 to replace a leaky cooling system o-ring located between the back of the engine and the return pipe from the water pump. They say the exhaust and catalytic converter need to be removed just to get to it. (Exhaust has to be removed so as to be able to get the pipe out of the engine block.)
Has anyone ever replaced this o-ring before? All the posts here seem to refer to exhaust work done at the muffler end of the pipe; anyone have any tips or videos on how I can drop the exhaust at OTHER end just to replace the leaky coolant O-ring?

To do the job, they say, I have to remove the catalyst and replace 2 exhaust seals there as well.

Parts List:
11-53-7-584-829 GASKET:889520 (o-ring for the pipe) $4.14
18-30-7-581-970 GASKET RING: 188520 (for catalyst) $43.75
18-307-606-136 SCREW CLAMP: 183013 $65.92

Almost $1000 for labor and tax??
... and the parts are over twice
the price that ECS Tuning lists (for
genuine BMW brand ones).

The cost of the O-ring was the Challenger Disaster.
