Computer displays inconsistencies.

The dash displays on my 2019 x3 S30i has been behaving differently since doing some service a couple of months ago. One of the things they did was to address a recall of some kind.

In any event, the various displays don't show the same information nor behave the same.

1. MPG display - it had been reset to 0 from about 22.8 MPG. It quickly went up to 24.5 MPG, usually going up when driving on the freeway with the cruise control for stretches, typically 5 miles or so.

Even in city driving, I could keep the MPG figure up or even increase it by coasting a lot, which makes the blue meter at the bottom fill up to the left.

It's been that way for a couple of months but since then, it's steadily declined and even the 5 mile stretches on the freeway wouldn't raise it the way it used to.

Today, I went on about a 35-40 mile round trip and it raised it from 22.4 to 22.7.

Anyone else see this kind of behavior, like initially changes a lot, especially going up with more freeway driving but then it's steadily declining, unless you do some longer freeway drives?

2. Cruise control speed display doesn't stay on. Before the service, whenever the cruise control was engaged, you'd see the speed of the cruise control setting in little green digits.

Now, the green display only stays on for a couple of seconds, whenever I increase or decrease the cruise control speed setting.

3. Digital display of the speed in MPH. This used to be on all the time, right in the middle. After the service, it never returned.

I dug through the menus and found some other speed setting and it displays it in KPH.

Maybe they changed the firmware and these reflect new behavior? I've tried emailing a couple of BMW geniuses or whatever they call it but never got a response.

I suppose I can schedule an appointment with one of them but haven't. I checked the BMW Genius app. on my iPhone, really a poor app. Search doesn't seem to work.

Your descriptions sound like normal behavior. Maybe someone (previous owner?) coded it differently. Then the service restored it to normal operation. If you're not familiar with "coding" there's a section in this forum. There are ways to customize your car, but when a dealer updates the car it all goes back to the way BMW wants it.

I'm the first and only lessee.

Thanks I will search, though I have to admit, I checked the menus and couldn't find anything.

The MPG doesn't always change in 0.1 MPG increments. The calculations are done in binary (ones and zeros) and then converted to human comprehendible base ten (0,1,2,3...9), and rounded. The rounding sometimes skips 0.1 MPG increments.

Frau Putzer's G01 X3's MPG can vary from 12 to over 40. I recently got 40.2 MPG on a 14-mile suburban drive where I averaged about 37.5 MPH.

You may get more responses if you put your post in the forum for your generation vehicle instead of the forum for the previous generation.

The MPG is accumulative, so after a reset, the number vary greatly until you get many miles, the it stabilizes.
