2010 BMW X5 air suspension question?

Is the air suspension just on the rear for the third row seat extra weight? THANKS, Jim in TN

Not just for 3rd row. Was standard on X5M which of course doesn’t have 3rd row and was on the M sport. Can’t recall but may have been stand alone option for other variants. Great for leveling when towing.

I think it depended on the year. The suspension may have had different options year to year. My 08 has it due to the 3rd row.

THANK YOU for the Replies

My 2010 BMW X5 35d shows the options separate, a third row seat and then the self-leveling air suspension too, but is the air on the rear suspension only? I just bought the car and have not been under it yet?
THANKS AGAIN for the replies, even one of the independent BMW Mechanics said he did not know, and had not worked on the air before-THANKS, Jim in TN

There is a “sport” option as well. It’s a button bu the shifter. It will stiffen the suspension ride.

It is my understanding that initially air suspension and third row were separate line items, but that somewhere along the MY line, they were tied together, such that you could only get them as a package. My 2012 was purchased with 3rd row seats, even though we've never used them and never planned to use them, but wanted the air suspension because we tow a travel trailer.

Jim,

I'm the in the category as not having 3rd row but I do have the rear air suspension.

Like rich said it's a great option for towing!

1. the air leveling suspension is ONLY in the rear

2. If you ordered the 3rd row it always came with the air leveling

3. You could also order air without the 3rd row. (But could not order 3rd row w/o air)

4. The sport button is for Adaptive Drive- totally unrelated to air leveling

THANKS for your REPLIES

I do my service work and just wanting to know about the air suspension and really appreciate this forum and I have learned enough to keep now 4 BMWs going strong. 3 X5 35ds and 1 M3 Convertible

I do pull a trailer with a gas golf cart to the races to help with older people transportation when we get there and the one I am using is a standard X5 with a hitch and wiring harness I put on it. I do not have hardly any tongue weight on the BMW, yet the trailer and the golf cart are pretty light and do not even stress the 35d at all.

The newest X5 does have the prewired trailer hitch option which I did not have and made my own, but NO Trailer Hitch and will probably use the one now, as it does not seem to need any help in the rear now.

THANK YOU again for all of the replies and it is so nice to know that most people that like BMWs are wanting to help from personal experience and that really makes this a GREAT site-THANKS, Jim from TN
