X1 Strut bearing plate

Got my 2013 X1 back from my mechanic after getting front brakes replaced (70k). Leaving the lot the suspension on the front right was crunchy/loud. Mechanic later diagnosed saying the strut bearing plate was to blame and had nothing to do with recent work.
Has anyone else had this happen after their car was worked on? It seems like an awfully big coincidence since my suspension sounded normal when I dropped it off...
Thank you!

With a car that old, it's certainly possible. I also don't think a brake job would impact the struts at all so you can't really say they fubar'd the struts in the course of the job. I think more likely, you were just listening for anthing amiss when you had the work done.

Is the noise when you turn the wheel?

The sound is not tied to the steering wheel. Everything is just exaggerated as if the shocks/struts aren't doing their job. A slight low spot in the pavement sounds like a hitting a pothole for example.

My mechanic mentioned there was a model of car (not BXW, something domestic) that the suspension would malfunction after being up on a lift ....presumably the loss of compression to the suspension was to blame(?)

Thanks for your help -- I am a total dumb girl when it comes to cars but I love this twin turbo.

...not sure with BMW's since this is my first but this is a common point of failure in other European fwd and awd cars. Not normally related to brake work at all...I agree that it is probably coincidental.

I'd take wheel off and look for ever brake item in place.

I just got new Michelins on my X1, and tire shop over tightened lugs.

The shop manager came out, pulled up on my 2 ft torque wrench bar, and nearly fell over backwards it was so tight.

He repeated insisted that, "they torque all wheels to specs, and my torque wrench was no good", but lug opened with a big pop.

This is same thing as when paper boy dog is on your leg at same time the owner is screaming "don't worry, he won't bite"

Cognitive dissonance.....
