Lcm help needed!

I need help determine the proper LCM! I have a 2001 BMW X5 3.0i. I bought the car with some issues but thought it was light bulbs or relays! Nope come to find out the LCM caught fire!! Burned up wiring, it was a mess! I have repaired all the wiring. Now I need an LCM, Don't want to pay a dealer $800 for a new one, Looking on eBay and other online sites! I Have found plenty! I know I have to buy some type of computer program to code the new LCM. Problem is I can not read the old part number and have no clue what I need! I think I have it narrowed down some but not 100%! All I can read is LCM, BMW, 601-! So when I have been searching I don't know witch one I need! If any one has any insight please help!! Thank you!!

Go to https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/select and enter the last 7 digits of the serial number of your vehicle. Search -> Browse Parts ... click on "On-Board Network" and then on "ECUs, modules, sensors". Now you will see the part numbers you are searching for (depending on your vehicle configuration). Youre not be sure, wich is the correct one? Contact a BMW dealer, tell him your VIN, and he can tells you the correct part number.

Buying a used LCM is the easiest part. Your problem is that you need to reflash this ECU in your car. The LCM stores the serial number and mileage of the other vehicle. Depends on your car, you will get a modify warning on your instrument cluster, when you insert it. And trust me, to reflash a ECU isnt the same like coding some funny comfort stuff. You will need a special software to do this.

"And trust me, to reflash a ECU isnt the same like coding some funny comfort stuff. You will need a special software to do this." Took the dealership 18 hours to program the new LKM when my old one died.
