MPPSK cancels ASD?

Hi All,

I have a 2017 340x with the MPPSK, among other options. I've had experience with a 235 and 435x which both had ASD. Both have received a bypass harness to override it - point being, I'm not a fan.

I've read in various threads that the MPPSK codes out ASD functionality, is this the case? Is there anywhere other than folklore that confirms this?

I'd like to know before I drop the money on a harness and/or do an unnecessary mod (not that it would hurt the car, just take up my precious time). Thanks in advance for any help/links/reassurances you can provide.

P.s. I'll post more pics, here a quickie of my car:

That is a nice-looking color on the 340, and I love the wheels. Those wheels are perhaps my favorite thing about my 340.

This might be a stupid question, but do all the cars have ASD now? I was under the impression that only the M cars (or the M-Performance cars, such as the M235 and M550) have this "feature". I ask because I would be surprised to learn that my 340 actually has this based on how the Dinan Exhaust sounds at varying times.

I can't speak specifically to the 340, but I can say the M235 and 435 both had ASD.

As I understand it, the 340 does as well, but may have been coded out with MPPSK added - hence the OP question.

It seems BMW is aiming to hide the fact that ASD exists at all, so it's hard to get a solid answer.

I have a similar setup and have no clue about the ASD coding. Would be nice to know!

My 2014 435i has MPPK and MPE (pre MPPSK stuff) . I have seen many threads on people's dislike of the ASD and have always wondered why since I have no exhaust sounds coming from my speakers. I need to open my window to get the full effect of the exhaust sounds. With windows up, it is hard to enjoy it. Maybe the reasons is that they do perform a software delete on the ASD when MPPK or MPPSK is installed. This would sure explain my experience.

Oh, so ASD is actually SFES*.

I hate that stuff. One of the reasons I didn't buy an M3.

I just spoke to my salesman who I asked to research this to finally get a confirmation. He told me that a non-M and non-MPerf car will NOT have ASD. Only the M cars, the M240/M235/M550 (and by powers of deduction, cars like the X4 M, X5 M and X6 M, I assume) will have it. A 435i, a 340i, etc. does not have this feature.

I do plan to code the car in the near future so I'll look into whether it's even accessible by code just to see the possibility that it exists in hardware/software for myself.

Interesting. The separate amp was in the 435 and the harness made a difference!

but, as noted, it can be disconnected or coded off, so not a good reason for not getting an M3
also, it doesn't seem that noticeable

LOL, I was just thinking that I would be happy if I could just mod the ASD to provide more burbles, as that is all I really want from the MPPSK

You could even make it sound like an M3. Now THAT is a reason not to buy one (if you're into shameless self-tricking)!

Thatís unfortunately not true. Literally every BMW has it right now.
