The BMW X5 M and X6 M are high-performance derivative of the X5 and X6. Introduced at the 2014 LA Auto Show and appearing in dealerships in 2015. Both modeles are powered by BMW's S63tu twin turbo charged V8 making 567 HP and 553 lb-ft of torque, the most power for any BMW xDrive vehicle.

X5M Model MY?

I just bought an X5M F85. I used to have a E70 X5M, loved that beast but the seals went so it had to go. Anyway what I have come back here to ask is does anyone know how a F85 model is classed? Im in Australia, I bought a MAY 15 built F85 but it appears it probably hit the shores in the last quarter and it's first service was late December. How do I see a compliance date? It was sold to me as a MY16. Is this true or is it an MY15 due to build date? Does anyone know the build dates for MY#s? It doesn't make a big diff to me but I just don't like being tricked if it is definitely a MY15.

Also are all services on this thing electronic now, ie no more stamps? I did not get a stamped service book and they told me they no longer exist.

It was a reputable dealer so if necessary I'll have a discussion with them on Tuesday but would appreciate any ammo.

Cheers all.

I haven't seen an owners manual that gets "stamped" in ages. BMW uses a CBS (conditioned based service) system. You can probably google it to get a better understanding...here's an example: https://www.autoblog.com/2016/08/31/...-service-indi/

In regards to model year vs build date...you may need to check your countries regulations for this. Here in the USA...the DOT (dept of transportation) requires that ALL car manufacturers indicate the "official" model year (regardless of build date) by using a specific numeric or alpha digit as the 10th VIN digit. Model year designations can vary when they begin and end...and may not necessarily coincide with the build date/production date. Here in the USA...alpha characters starting with A through Y (I/O/Q/U/Z aren't used as not to be confused with numerical digits)...then numerical digits 1 through 9 are used to represent the "official" model year. This started in 1985 and the cycle begins over again once all the alpha and numeric digits have been used.

Examples OF 10th VIN digits for the USA car market:
  • 7 = 2007
  • 8 = 2008
  • 9 = 2009
  • A = 2010
  • B = 2011
  • C = 2012
  • D = 2013
  • E = 2014
  • F = 2015
  • G = 2016
  • H = 2017
  • J = 2018
  • K = 2019
  • M = 2021
  • X = 2029
  • Y = 2030
  • 1 = 2031
  • 2 = 2032
  • 3 = 2033

A prime example of build date and official model year is the F06 6 series. This was the 4 door six series grand coupe`. The SOP (start of production) for the 2019 model year began in 5/2018...with the EOP (end of production) being 10/2018. None of these cars for the USA market were built in 2019...but the ones built from 1/2018 through 4/2018 are officially 2018 model year cars and have a J as their 10th VIN digit. The ones built between May & Oct 2018 have a K as their VIN digit and although built in 2018...they are "officially" designated and sold as 2019 model year vehicles.
