2016 M4 went into limp mode while on test drive

I was looking at the 2016 M4 with 42k miles, within 10 minutes on the test drive the transmission went into limp mode and a warning came up.
I noticed a delay in shifting from 1st to 2nd (in automatic mode), then a short time after the warning came up and the car had very limited power.
The factory warranty expired last month on this car.
It was for sale at a KIA dealer and I also test drove the Stinger GT, the Stinger felt almost as fast and drove not much worse then the M4 (when the M4 was working correctly).
Is this a common problem with DCT's, that has a easy fix?

Was "Drivetrain malfunction" one of the errors? That is basically the equivalent of a check engine light, which could mean 1 of 100 problems, and it is not necessarily a drivetrain or DCT issue. I had one on my CPO 2017 M4 ZCP the day I drove it home after delivery, took it back to the dealer and they found that one of the clamps on one of the charge pipes was loose. It was tightened and I drove away with no issues since.

I don't remember what the code was.
The car lost power and wouldn't change gears, with gas pedal all the way down it accelerated very slowly.
I think that wasn't the best example of a M4 anyway, the interior was somewhat beat up, it looked and smelled like a used car.
I know other's take perfect care of them and they still are like new.

The F8x S55 engine is known to have issues with a SCH (spun crank hub) which will trigger the drive train malfunction light. Buyer beware with any M vehicle out of warranty, as it's more likely than not the vehicle was driven hard by the original owner.
