Phone tray / usb aux

Hi,
Iím just about to buy a 2008 LCI 630i
Itís got a phone tray fitted under the arm rest, but I canít work out whether it will have the usb and aux sockets fitted, does anyone anyone know if these are hidden under the phone tray, or elsewhere in the car please?

I want to use a Tune2air as I find Bluetooth steaming important. If it makes a difference - the car has got the professional navigation fitted.

Thanks in advance

Guys sorry to be a pain, ive been searching the forum last night and today but not having any luck, anyone know if all LCI 630i came with the usb and aux sockets, and where the location is?

I'm at the verge of buying the car, but, it's quite far from me so can't just pop down to have a look, and the dealer doesn't think it's got it, but from what I've read, I thought that it would, don't remember seeing the sockets though.

Thanks in advance

The USB would be in the arm rest area, if it was fitted from the factory. It is easy to add the USB at a low cost. Don't expect the stream Bluetooth on any model sooner than a 2010. The Bluetooth is for phone connection only, not even Bluetooth music.

Thanks guys I appreciate it.
Looks like I don't have the usb, however, I've read the manual, and it shows that I should have an aux input with the 3.5mm jack, but it says it's under the arm rest.
The car's entertainment section in idrive also has got an aux submenu. However because I've got that phone tray system fitted, I can't workout if there will indeed be an aux jack hidden underneath the phone tray, or whether it just won't be fitted at all. I've looked in other obvious places like the glovebox but couldn't find one.

I think on my next days off I'm going to have to try to remove that phone tray and see what's underneath.

I think that next step will also be to start going through the forums and find a solution for me to get a way to get a usb socket into the idrive

Sorry but you won't get a USB connection working on that car.

You have a CCC system. In 2010 they started the CIC control with USB. You would need to upgrade the car. It is expensive and technically challenging.

There was some aftermarket audio solution that might give you what you are looking for. I can't remember what the name of the company was, but I think they are still a vendor here on the forum. Gary might remember what I am talking about? The aux port is usually located at the front top of the armrest on the console. If you are seeing the AUX input on the IDrive, someone might have removed it before selling the car, or it might be tucked away somewhere?

It sounds like you have quite a search on your hands for this elusive aux, since you've looked in the most obvious places also consider the ashtray area, if the previous owner had a Dension fitted he may have had the Specdoc also which would place the aux lead under the ashtray since this is a device that converts the ashtray into a phone dock for iphone etc, a Dension would also give you the usb capability your looking for with a CCC by the way, not cheap though at around the £300 mark, I'm not currently sure what that would be in $ if your USA based .
There's also a cover at the back of the glove box, this covers the fuses and is a fascia for the CD player, the aux could also be behind this if it is indeed fitted.

Here's the TIS for the phone to help you remove it, just in case .

There's also a few pics here of what you can expect to see under the phone cradle.

Fantastic - this is exactly what I am looking for, so many options on amazon but great to hear you've done it yourself and it works, and with the faceplate this looks great!

Incidentally - I found my aux socket - I feel like a bit of a dunce, but, found a button at the front of the phone tray, which then let's you lift the phone tray and access the storage underneath it (and has got the aux socket!). No usb however, but, I'll go for the change from cd changer to the module above.

Thanks again everyone!

If available that looks like a good solution. The other system was by Dennison and if you can find one that should do the trick. I don;t have a model number but search the forum. It's here somewhere in a post.

£118, should arrive this week.

I was looking at the denison gateway 500 bt but that was about £340. Hopefully this system is reliable!

Let us know how you get on mate. I have BT Handsfree and an aux etc already. I also have a direct to the CCC apple connector. But I really want to add BT Music streaming.

I fitted it today - it's brilliant. Very very easy to fit, no coding needed as I replaced the cd changer, and it works very well!

By changing the connectors around on the cables, it's as simple as unplug cd changer, splice the power cables (splice boxes are supplies) and plug into the media box. 15 minute job (though I was quite curious and got the radio all out so I could have a look)

Brilliant solution, for far less money than a dension! Streams over Bluetooth. Works with Spotify, audible and music. You just select CD changer on idrive, then there's a submenu for BT, USB, aux or SD. It displays song names, and the steering wheel controls and idrive work. I've set it up to not control the Bluetooth for phone calls - so I'm still using the cars onboard Bluetooth (you connect to both at the same time)

Can't recommend it enough!

And I was just going to ask if I could retain the factory BT for phone calls?
That's brilliant if you can!

I might look into this now. Did you buy this from a UK seller?

Yes - this is the seller I bought from, UK based, arrived within 2 or 3 days. Highly recommended

In order to keep the standard in car bluetooth, you can turn off the bluetooth phone function on the unit - there's 4 switches on the unit, all should be on 'OFF' by default, but if you flick number 4 to 'ON', that will turn off the phone function, just check that your phone is paired to both at the same time, which mine was. I've tested it, and has got no issues at all, works well with both connected

Hmm, this is interesting, looking at Carly, and just found this on their webpage:

https://shop.mycarly.com/en/adapter/...es-bmw/a-9002/

I presume that this is a bluetooth module, which is cheaper than the one the media box I've posted above. Obviously doesn't have all of the other functions like usb / sd / aux in / phone, but I didn't need any of that, and could have kept the CD Changer. Shame I didn't find this before, I'd have tried the Carly one out. Never mind, I'm still happy with how the other one works!

Also the Carly adapter doesn't let you use the steering wheel controls nor does it display the song name on the idrive.

I assume your one you fitted does this right??

I assume it does this with Spotify too? Will it change tracks on your Spotify playlist and show the track names too?

Think I might order your one too...
