After six years, BMW is saying goodbye to the i8. Autocar reports that production of the hybrid sports car will end in April.

It appears that the i8 will not be replaced directly and will instead be followed by a number of exclusively electric vehicles like the i4, the iX3, and based on concepts like the iNext, and the Vision M Next.

The reception of the i8 was mixed. Although it looked aggressive and was supposed to compete with 911, it was compromised by its electric mission and never managed to capture the enthusiast market in the same way as the competition.

Although the exact date of the i8's demise is still unknown, Autocar suggested that order books in the UK will close at the end of February, so the window for a custom i8 is coming close.
