G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

LOL, no one with a BMW would need to post on the Hyundai forum. You read some of this on the forum ...."I bought this non-BMW and I want to feel good about it...."

Good thing you're enjoying your F10. I hope you keep enjoying it till the wheels fall off, because if $700/month is your budget, you can't afford a G30.

Cheers.

Um, that's a bit of a generality. I'll be paying about $530/ month for my purchased '18 540i, MSRP $68010, with the way I'm structuring it.

The long and short of it is that the dealer did the car a disservice by handing it over with an empty battery, and this rendered void pretty much all of the opinions formed about the drivetrain.

18 miles (21 actually is my figure) is far more useful than it seems because it is not being used all the time. I have had my car since the end of July and have only fully discharged the battery three or four times.

But also you need to understand how it works. For example, it is important to always have your destination set in the navigation because it uses this information to work out when best to use the battery. There is also 'Battery Control' mode which allows you to set a minimum charge level on the battery to be maintained should you wish to override the intelligence.

So really what I'm saying it is not surprising that a car with a dead battery and an uninformed driver (no disrespect meant here) did not deliver...

its amazing to me that you can have multiple cars in your house.. love almost everything about your bmw car that you use as a every day driver,
get a loaner and make a post on thoughts so people actually get a real compare and contrast and it turns into this banter.
ill just post facts and stay away from making insults like the ignorance i see

It's funny how many of the comments I read are virtually the same when the F10 replaced the E60.

The hood design of the F10 was clearly better looking than the G30 as were the rear tail lights. The G30 looks considerably better from the front (minus the hood issue) and the headlights, in particular, are spectacular. The G30 is way smoother, way faster (540 vs 535), the interior is vastly more upscale and refined looking and the newest version of iDrive is a real pleasure to use. Voice controls, while still not great, have improved markedly and gas mileage is simply astonishing for a car of this size and power. G30 steering is improved and the car is a consummate highway cruiser...refined and planted at all speeds and under all conditions. Ambient lighting is tasteful and highly configurable. G30 A/C sucks compared to the F10 but is [barely] satisfactory nonetheless.

Just some random thoughts from someone who has owned both.

just drove 120 miles to work some more thoughts

Its a nice highway cruiser, the bottom cushion of the seat is nice for long drives
car is isolated and is almost to disconnected from the road no emotion when your driving
drove in sport half the trip my f10 4 cylinder has more response and more power, dont know how thats possible due to the new b48 motor

looking at the interior while i was drivin the interface w nav screen is ridiculous the shape of it and sticking out of the dash as is seems un erogonomic.. if you like to use touch on screen its a huge upgrade its close and touch screen capable

in and out of traffic for an hour the brakes again are a huge issue, there is an over assist feature where the pedal modulates during stops and is a deal breaker to buy the car for me
when i drove the 540 at bmw didnt feel the same thing as i have with the 2 e loaners

a capapble highway cruiser, even better than the f10 is the best i can do right now with positives for the sedan
i will wait another year see what comes to market before upgrading to me..
bmw has some work to do

forgot to mention

the display on dash for speed and whatever is going on to replace tach had two nice upgrades from the f10
the directions when nav is enbaled has been moved up from the bottom on the lcd on the f10 to the middle right and is a nice feature and look
also signs with speed and next turn was there, nice upgrade from the f10
also the voice command with some hot chick from england is softer and more soothing as a turn by turn direction companion

Can't believe I fell for this, like it's my first day out on the Internet. LOL.

Anyways, my earnest advice still stands. Sport mode, full battery, etc., etc.

And when the E60 replaced the E39. "Bangle Butt" and iDrive were just the tip of the iceberg

just returned the loaner some immediate thoughts

the seat in the f10 without the side bolsters are more comfortable for me
overall the interior of the g30 is a much more comfortable car and better ergonomic design than the f10

i like the nav screen , graphics and the embedded screen in the f10 rather than the g

the extra width of a couple of inches with arm rest and width of car makes a difference to drive long distances, nod goes to to the g

is it worth the upgrade? let others decide i feel the same way i did the other day, if i did buy one i would buy the 540 with the nappa and multi contour seats or wouldn't get the car

safe driving to all
