G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Ordered a G30 - colour opinion....

Hi

Excitedly, Ive now ordered a G30 (520D Drive MSport) with plenty of options (Comfort pack, M Sport Plus pack, CarPlay, Sun Protection glass etc).

Ive submitted my order in Sophisto Grep Xirallic (I understand this is referred to as Dark Graphite in US) with the Black 19 inch alloys.

I like the idea of the dark grey with black wheels, but having seen pics of Moonstone I'm wondering if that would be better?

Thought???

Thanks

Beauty (color) is in the eye of the beholder. That's why BMW makes so many different colors. Just ask Barbra Steisand's husband.

I started with 10 black cars in a row and now have switched over to alpine/polar white on my last two. I have to admit that Dark Graphite was tugging at me this time and might be the color of my next car -- nice choice! In my opinion, black rims are the only way to go with DG -- again, that's my personal taste.

White cars need need black wheels. I'm not a fan of them on dark cars, for now.

A problem is that its very difficult to see any of these colors in person. I spent an hour or so at my dealer looking at new cars while my 535 was getting an oil change. Probably looked at (walked by) over 200 cars and not one had either exterior or interior colors I am contemplating. Virtually every car had black interior and most exterior colors were black, white or gray (very few).

I don't know about Moonstone. It sure looks good on the configurator and it's on my list of possibilities. Another on my list is Cashmere Silver. Looks blah on the configurator but I saw one in a CarMax showroom a couple of years ago and it's stunning, at least to me. My next trick is to ask the dealer if they have any in my colors on order so I can run down and take a quick peek when it arrives.

Good luck!

Moonstone is an Individual color, and I don't think it is currently offered as a standard Priority 1 color for the G30. There are 4 Individual colors offered "standard" for $1950. A custom color is in the range of $5000-6000. It is not easy finding an actual car sample of any Individual color. I was lucky my dealer had ordered an Azurite Black M5 for someone back when I was ordering my 2014 535i. Dark Graphite is a popular color, I would think you could find it at a well-stocked dealer lot.
