BMW Professional Radio Issues!

TL;DR: Blueooth, AUX, USB don't work, any ideas?

Hey guys, Newbie here,

So I bought a 2010 320D sport plus yesterday. I was told it had bluetooth phone when buying, didn't bother to check if it worked as it had the button on the steering wheel so I assumed all would be in working order.

When I go to the menu on the radio, the "TELE" option just has a double dash above it (Like so "- -"), which I cannot select, pressing any of the phone buttons on the wheel or radio does nothing, I also have an AUX port i-under the arm rest, but there is no AUX option on the media select, although there is a USB option, even though I cannot find a USB port anywhere.

I'm finding all this a bit confusing after a load of googling and contradictory information, saying I need a recode, a new MULF unit, car doesnt have bluetooth in the first place, etc....

If anyone on here could shed some light on the situation it would be greatly appreciated.

If the case is that it needs recoding (I think hundreds for BMW to do), or that it doesnt even have bluetooth, what options do I have in terms of a setup to play spotify from my phone and allow phonecalls with an aftermarket system? Without messing with the car info functionality on the HUD display?

Sorry for the long post I'm just out of ideas... aha.

Cheers, Will.

Bluetooth telephone usb come from modules in the trunk on
most e90's. Even the aux will come from the trunk modules in a lot of case.
TCU telephone control unit. bluetooth phone
Mulf 2 Hi telephone usb and aux
combox Hi telephone usb and aux and streaming bluetooth (streaming only with idrive)

Run your Vin through M decoder to see what you have and also check
to see which modules you have.

I Europe there were some cars that came with Pro Radio's that had some of this
stuff built into the Head Unit they only way to tell is pull the Radio and see what
you have.

You have and actual HUD display?

It is best to look up the VIN to find out which factory options were enabled in your car...things like the button on steering wheel were universally present even when the car did NOT have the option! Some hardware is installed ONLY if an option is to be supported

My own car (2011) has phone and USB/Aux and in the VIN it decodes
  • 663 Radio Bmw Professional
  • 6FL Usb-/audio Interface
  • 639 Complete Prep. Cellular Phone Usa/cdn

So I ran the VIN as sugested, and it's coming back with "S644A - Preparation F Mobile Phone W Bluetooth" so this tells me it doesn't actually have any of the media functionality, there is a USB option on the HU, but no USb slot, whereas I have an AUX slot, but no AUX option on HU...

Since it seems it isn't actually enabled on the car, what would people suggest? Basically I just want bluetooth calls and music, not fussed about satnav, without messing up the vehicle info on the radio "MPG, system warnings, etc...)

again, any help would be greatly appreciated!

Find out if you already have the right head unit with the Internal
bluetooth and usb . If you do it will mean coding and and antenna
and center console usb aux connection. These units where rare in the US.

The other way to do this is a Mulf 2 hi module with antenna's and coding.
Or combox module with the same.

I am thinking maybe you already have the last mentioned modules and they
have gone bad or been removed.

To check the options your car came with use mdecoder.com 6fl is usb.

I have the right head unit as it is the professional and is "prepped" for bluetooth, has the USB option visible in menu, I dont have a mulf unit as there is nothing visible under the carpet in boot, so i'm assuming i can grab a cheap cable and try coding myself with NCS expert, i'd say im capable of this with enough research, i'm pretty computer savvy in general. I'll put some research into the coding and order a cable off amazon.

Better to get the Bimmergeek.net cable and the Bimmergeeks.net
download. For cars made after 3/07 you may need the Icom cable
for Most Bus Unit programming.

Also the e90post coding subforum is the place to go for help with coding questions
