G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Huh? Half of this thread is about CarPlay and Siri...

The BMW Connected app and iDrive integration is indeed shaky at best, regardless of phone type.

Another one here that cannot get the tech right! We are having multiple issues with the BMW Connected App and communication between the the app and the car. I have an iPhone XS Max running on the latest iOS version and I consider myself techie savvy . This tells me that this synch with the app and car is not good at all.

This is a copy of the thread that my husband created in the main BMW general questions board. We haven't gotten many responses so I figured I post it here since this is the 5 series section.

Last weekend we bought a BMW 2019 540i, which I believe has the version 6 of the Connected Drive. I have been trying relentlessly for the car to connect to the BMW connected app that I installed in my iPhone, since the day we bought the car which was last Saturday. The locate vehicle option is stuck in the state of SC (we are in FL) which I believe is where the car was originally shipped to. I cannot use the app to unlock the vehicle, ventilate or activate the remote 3D view. We had an appointment today with a BMW genius and he said that they are updating their systems and that this will be fixed in a couple of days. The only option that is getting updated is the fuel level. Is anyone else experiencing this?
Any tips would be really appreciated

Edit to add: I tried removing the app from the phone and installing it again but that didn't help.

I find the BMW Connected Drive App to be clunky and somewhat unpredictable. It requires a bit of stubborn input to make it work sometimes. Deleting and then reloading the app on the iPhone sometimes helps bring back the ventilation function which almost never works. Its annoying that Bluetooth cannot use the full functionality needing USB plug-in to do all of it.

Heh. I feel your pain. Actually, I'm not looking to read my messages on the screen and I don't think that's even possible. I just want to be notified in the HUD when a message arrives and who it's from. ...

I did find one issue regarding carplay and my phone - I broke my iphone xs and am now using an older 7 phone. that one seems to hold the carplay, meaning I can switch to carplay quickly and without reconnecting the phone! so it's possible that BMW has not updated the software for the iphone xs or my phone was wonky. I did of course lose the bluetooth again yesterday, as my car is wont to do but carplay is better with the 7 for some reason. And everything in the car itself is updated from what the dealer said...

The challenge to keep Apple and BMW in synch will be always be an issue. But , it it is better to have a tech company handle in-car tech than a auto manufacturer. Tesla has it right - OTA updates and be a car company driven by tech.
