G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

No wireless phone charging?

Our 18 530e Xdrive didn't come with the built in wireless charging. So
I put up with not having it for quite a while. Then I started looking at ways to add it. I came up with this and it works great.

This charger:

https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Qi-C.../dp/B07GZNVLN8

With this cable:

https://www.amazon.com/Cerrxian-Char.../dp/B01N337FQF

It fits in the compartment and with the 90 degree cable still allows the compartment to be closed. I have a iPhone XR in a case,it's a little tight but does fit. Will fit easy with no case. My wife has a iPhone X and it fits great. So, for 20 bucks you can have wireless charging.

I’m fine with the usb cable but this is a very cheap alternative to paying the 300 or so bmw charges

That's a reasonable workaround; I've thought about doing something similar in my wife's '13 X1 but haven't gotten around to it. i did, however, buy a smaller wireless charging pad that is doing duty on my night-table at the moment.

Thanks OP
I have been trying to get an alternative, and this seems to be the one to use.
You just re-invented the wheel...LOL
Cheers

I have the wireless charging option, but it charges so slow. Maybe if my commute was longer than 10 minutes I'd use it more, but as-is, the only time I appreciate having the wireless charging pad is when I'm on road trips and streaming audio (or the audio from videos).

When I'm out and about (walking - not driving) I keep my cased Samsung S9 in my back pocket. Since I don't like sitting on it when I get in my car it immediately goes on the charging location in my 540xDrive. That phone has excellent battery life so it's rarely below 50% and I'm not relying on charging wirelessly - however I've read that many phones have poorer battery performance.

As for short duration situations = 5-10 minutes ... They happen once in a blue moon ... I'll just keep the phone on my pocket and be uncomfortable :-(
