Which engine do I want

Hi everyone- I was a member a while back but I'm guessing it was linked to an email address I don't use anymore, so here I am with a new name. I decided I should probably start showing up to client events in something more grown up and respectable than my obnoxious Corvette or 2000 4Runner with a dent in the bumper. I looked at some other vehicles and I'm leaning towards a 70-90k mile X5.

Uses:
Commute: 5k miles a year (if that) to the office (3.4 miles RT) and maybe one 70mile RT work related function a week. If that.

Tow: Just want the ability to tow my car to track (Vette or BRZ, probably BRZ 75% of the time). This might happen 2x a year. Probably less. Honestly, maybe not ever. One car is garaged at the track and the other is basically stock so I can drive it to the track. I don't mind installing an aux cooler or something if needed.


What I care about is "real" reliability. IE: I don't care if O2 sensors go bad regularly or something. I can replace them and they're relatively cheap. I can do more or less whatever is needed on the car, but I don't have the time. Sensors and maintenance is fine. I don't have enough time to do anything more than minor weekend projects (call it 2-3 hours of book time).

I assume they all have adequate power for 80mph highway driving.


Just kind of curious to hear your thoughts on towing and reliability- as well as thoughts on the car in general, reliability, things to check for, etc .

edit: also, how well they respond to mods and what mod are available. I'm probably just going to add a little power (and run aggressive street brake pads).
