G30 (2017 - Current)
The next generation 5 Series, chassis code G30, arrives at dealers in February 2017. Looking like a scaled down 7 Series and riding on the CLAR platform, the new 5 Series will have a focus on lightweight and sporty performance. Engines options will come from BMW's new B family for the 530 and 540 and a turbocharged V8 for the M550i. Read more about the 2017 5 Series

Silly question, but; does anyone know what the small blue diamond decal on the upper left of the windshield means? Pic. Added. Sorry hard to get a good pic

Could be a local company the dealer uses for dealer prep.

Some type of protective coating the dealer applied for a ridiculous surcharge? Or a lifetime supply of almonds?

We bought the car new and there were not any add ons. I will ask next time I go there. I was thinking it might indicate a windshield with some coating for the heads up display. But ??

Great find.

Yeah, if that's the case I would ask the dealer questions since they said they purchased the car new. I would find it odd for a new car to have a replacement windshield that isn't OEM glass.

So, the first thing I though was that the symbol was related to the glass. I knew there was a blue diamond auto glass company, but but no where near Minneapolis where we bought the car. The window sticker shows it went directly to Motorwerks BMW in MN from the port of entry. POE was Baltimore. So in theory the wIndshield could have been replaced there. The existing WS is a OE part, witness the BMW and other details etched in it. The E11 indicates it was manufactured in the UK by CarLex, a known BMW vendor.
So, I think we figured it out. Id bet blue diamond is a contractor for BMW USA at the port of entry. I have asked the sales person about this but have not heard back. Im about googled out, so until It proves to be a issue, Enough.

Sounds like your car had a broken windshield and it was replaced at the port. If so, it should be okay BUT if you have the cameras in the rear mirror housing, then I would make sure that the dealership recalibrates it to make sure it is good.

wow. I'm surprised that BMW would allow them to replace the windshield and put their logo on the car afterward...

From what I understand, the dealer should have access to what was replaced at the port as they usually create a work order. I'd either ask them about that or remove the blue logo in case you had a warranty issue in the future. No need to be arguing with them about "who installed the glass" if it turns out to be leaking or something.

I can't say that would happen at all. I'm just paranoid about that sort of stuff.

Car is not from Houston. It was off the ship in Baltimore and shipped to Minneapolis from there. Blue Diamond glass is all over the country.

I never said it was a non-OE wIndshield or that it was from Houston.

I would not sweat it. If it was a replacement done at the VPC, it is as god as new. I am sure many would be surprised how much is "fixed" at the VPC after the train and ship ride that they never know about.

I think this guy is correct, but I also would advise- if it were me, I'd call the dealer and make a stink (and probably email BMW directly) and make sure they note in their system that your car has an after-factory replaced windshield. That way if it develops problems down the road (ha!), like wind leak or something, you'll have some documentation to support you if you decide to try to get them to replace it on their dime.

May also want to check to see if there was also some body or paint work. Not as if the glass was replaced due to a rock thrown off hitting the windshield. Almost like something fell or hit it during shipping. Yes, the dealer does have access and would have been notified about any major damage.

Interesting...it must be a dealer code of some type. I have the exact same on my car - and verified it is original OEM glass (so not the winshield replacement company).

I bought my car at the same dealership (Motorwerks BMW in Bloomington MN) as OP. I've been planning to remove those three stickers for a few months and keep forgetting to do so.
