Trans rebuild.

Cars been sitting for a year. 2000 323Ci. Finally getting around to do it.

Today I just got it on the lift and draining the fluid. Hopefully yanking it our tomorrow.

And 4 chunks of the drum that were in the pan.

One of the reasons I did a manual conversion on my 01 325i!!

Transmission was slowly deteriorating and when I changed fluid when I bought the car, it had big shavings of metal.

Good luck!

Jjrichar has an indepth thread on this site of a tear down and rebuild that's photo documented. 50's Kid and shoplifetv or shoplivevlog have some DIYs on YouTube.

Edit : jjrichar's thread is on E46fanatics.com.

Well I would have had it back in tonight but had a slight snag.

As I was on the finial step torquing the drum (63 Nm) the case cracked. Im a little pissed. Im wondering if the drum might have been machined wrong. It should not have done that.

Automatic trans innards are a complete mystery to me. I tip my cap to the OP for doing this. Sorry to see the case cracked. There is a local BMW salvage near me, I might be able to source you another one if you so desire. PM me if interested.

I found a ZF5hp19 out of an 03 530i for a decent price. It should be the same, right?

Not sure, the ZF in the 330 engines (a 530 would be an m54b30) is rated for more torque than the 323/325 box. Does that mean the case is different? Probably not, but I don't know for sure.

My coworker worked BMW for 20 years now at Audi. He said that if its a ZF from a 6cyl it will fit.
